Identifying England vs China mfd. Celestions?

Well guys, I'm burnt out using the search function on this topic. I yielded zero results, although I KNOW it has been covered before.

So, what are the identifiers to distinguish the difference between the two countries Celestion uses for manufacturing speakers?

edit: Vintage 30 info is all I'm really interested in, but general info is nothing I'm gonna be picky about.

Thanks all in advance!

I think it says at the back where they're made .. :laugh2:

Yep. In my Bogner 4x12'', I opened up the back panel and on the sticker on the back of the Vintage 30 speakers, it says specifically England. If the Chinese speakers had "made in English" stickers put on them then you got me.

Oh well, atleast It's a start. Maybe trying to contact someone who knows alot about those speakers?

I've spoken to Rick Skillman at Celestion and Jim Seavall from Southbay Ampworks who makes the Scumback pre-rola Celestion clones about this. I don't think you can count on the labeling. As far as Vintage 30's about mid 2001 was around the cutoff point I believe. Probably around that date for the other models as well I bet. Aside form asthetic reasons I doubt you'll find any diffrences. I have yet to. I've got a matched set of Vintage 30's in a 4x12 from 1992 and aside form being well broken in , they don't sound much different if at all from anything within the last couple of years.

the vintage 30 is a rock icon. i'm sure that celestion went to great lengths to make sure the chinese made ones are just as good as the old brit ones.

just remember this: no matter where the speaker is 'assembled' most/all of the raw parts come from china. 98% of the process is done by machines so the only noticeable difference would be the decreased cost to manufacture. Lets not forget the rise in Celestion stock since they are charging us the same amount of $ for a cheaper product.....
