Identifying Pickups?

I'm about to purchase 2 second hand pickups, the SH-2 Jazz, and the SH4-JB.
I've never seen a seymour duncan outside a guitar, all I've seen is it says Seymour Duncan on the lower coil of the two, as do all Seymour Duncan humbuckers with two coils.

I'd like to be sure that I'm not paying for two high class buckers and receiving a cheap variety, or even a fake.

Is there any way to know what pickup I'm being sold? A serial number? A model number? Anything?

Thanks ahead.

Re: Identifying Pickups?

the base plate will have the Logo and a sticker or label with the model number.

Re: Identifying Pickups?

Okay, thanks a lot.
Are there any signs that I should look for that the pickup has been handled with?
And if theres no sticker should I give up the buy?

Re: Identifying Pickups?

You can measure the DC resistance....the JB should measuere around 16.4K and Jazz Neck around 7.72 .

Re: Identifying Pickups?

Hes getting 8kohm on the JB and 8.1 on the jazz.
What the hell is going on? He's admitting something isnt right, he says it could be because the pickups arent in the guitar, which I say isnt true, makes no difference right?

Re: Identifying Pickups?

All SD pickups should have a label on the bottom showing what model they are. Note that the label codes are different depending on whether the pup was made before or after 2002:

As far as I know, all but the oldest SD humbuckers have the Seymour Duncan logo and Made In America embossed on the baseplate.

Re: Identifying Pickups?

Wierd, he says theres no serial number on the pups, nothing...
Just the says Seymour Duncan and the logo.
