If have a pro Setup your guitar does it include fixng fret buzzing on one fret?

I just got my guitar back from having it setup from a pro but on the 5th fret 3rd string you can see a small indent on that one note that causes buzzing, should have this been addressed when it was setup or is something I should I asked and paid more for? :friday: not sure if I should go back or not thanks for any 2 cents:friday:

if that fret is lower than the rest there is no easy fix. either than fret needs to be replaced or the rest need to be ground down.

i wouldnt expect it to be fixed in a setup which implys adjustments and no adjustment is going to fix that.

its not the entire fret just on that specific note and only the 3rd string 5th fret, I guess I play that note more often or something lol thanks man I really appreciate the advice, if it gets worse Im sure Ill eventually bring it in and have it fixed/replaced:friday:

Nothing but a full fret planing will cure that, and that is normally not included in a normal setup.

Discuss it with the tech, see what he says about it.

I usually try to be specific with techs when I take something to to be fixed/adjusted, that way when I get the item back I can address the issues and see if they've been handled. Sometimes a tech will notice something that I hadn't and hopefully they'll get in touch with me about any additional charges for repairs/parts beforehand.

Every tech will be slightly different in the approaches taken to include a service along with a standard setup. One guy I know doesn't mind doing a little extra here and there and, in my opinion, loses some money that way. Others I've seen are so literal that if you took them your guitar and said "Change the strings and clean it up" then what you would get back is your guitar with new strings (not tuned or intonated) that had been wiped with a rag.

+1. Sanford got it right. My advice is to discuss this with the tech, and see what he has to say. Ask him a ballpark price, and see if you can work something out. If it's bad buzzing, this is worth it, in the long run.

Eh there is a huge difference bewteen a setup and a fret planing.....
( I usually do the small thing extra, but a complete fret job is just not something small extra job, it is always a good thing to sit down and play the instrument while the customer is there, and determin what needs to be done!)

A photo would be useful.

I can tell you that when I have indentations on the cowbow frets I just fretlevel them out no matter what. I found that deeper indentations and resulting lower frets result in a lot more playable guitar than I originally thought. My plaintop Burny for example. And if I didn't tell you that it had such a fretlevel you wouldn't be able to tell, it plays and looks perfectly normal.

In other words: it looks more scary than it is.

pretty much everything being said is correct.

1)this would never be covered by a setup
2)talk to the tech specifically about this issue and see what it would cost for a fix

If it's only on one note on one string, you might just have him replace the one bad fret and get it down to the size of the others and dress them, rather than take them all down to the level of the bad fret.

How do you level the new fret without collateral leveling of the next frets?

It will be higher, and so a straight edge will rock up and down on it...the new fret is smoothed out and brought down until the straight edge touches the frets in front of and behind the new one.

And how do you do that without taking material off one or both of the adjacent frets?
