If I had $400

Re: If I had $400

I would put a WLHb and two Antiquity II Mini-Humbuckers in that baby and never look back.

Re: If I had $400

That's a crazy deal. You could probably get $800 for that if you waited for the right buyer.

I wonder why he is selling it so cheap

Re: If I had $400

Some people are just stupid. Or don't care. Here's an example of each - I talked to a guy at Guitar Center a few months ago that said he picked up a 69 tele this year for $300. And as far as people not caring, one time I sold my Nintendo 3DS and games for... $210? Yeah, that sounds right. Anyway, we met at starbucks and he hands me $220 and tells me to keep it. I mean, I would have been happy to go over to the counter and get him $10 back, but he didn't want it.

Yeah, they're both idiots.

Re: If I had $400

Well, there are many scratches and dents which look great on a strat eg, but are generally less desireable with these kind of guitars and finishes.
The pickup configuration is a bit unusual.
Frets have been filed down already and are worn down and dented after that, so that will cost the buyer a refret job. Unless you can do that yourself, you're looking at an additional 200 bucks at least.

The seller could ofcourse wait for the right buyer, but probably needs some cash double time. Nothing excessivly stupid about it.
Don't know about the market in the US, but over here you'd be lucky to get 400 euros for it in this state.

I'd probably go for it though.

That is one hell of a deal. Even if you spent the money on a fret job and touching up the finish, you'd still come out ahead. Nice examples of Studios typically go for > $1k.

Re: If I had $400

Passed the link to a Richmond area guy I know and he liked it so much he is going to look at this tomorrow. :13:

Re: If I had $400

I guess the guy has been in hibernation for the last 20 years. 400 bucks would buy me a new MIM Strat or 2-yeard old Ibanez Prestige. "Made in USA" doesn't really mean anything these days, especially with regard to electric guitars.

Re: If I had $400

I am so jelly BTMN no way it can still be there but wish your friend luck. That thing is custom with an ebony board right up my alley , he needs to send it to my guy for a big fat SS fretjob if he buys it!

It's gone. Pretty sure TommyP snagged that. I will smack him Benny Hill style if he didn't next time I see him. :23:

Do you have any actual experience with USA Hamers?

Re: If I had $400

Yes that because the best guitars are made in Indonesia right?

I get it, its part of your schtick Brian but dont be a hater

You misunderstood me. My point is, whether you like it or not, TODAY even guitars made outside the US and Japan are on par with USA-made models. No hatred here, just merely stating the facts. This is 2014 not 1994.

The aforementioned seller boasts a 20-year old guitar that is US-made, but I won't pay 400 bucks for a relic while I can get a barely used Ibanez Prestige or Mexican Strat for the same money. Hope this clears things up.

Side note: Or you can buy a firewood, a chisel, a fabric with specific pattern, and make your own in your backyard, as some of us have.

And FYI You might also need a Thicknesser, Bandsaw, Jointer, Plunge router, Router table. Hand Planer, Files, Spokeshave, Rubber mallet and skill.
