If Jimi Hendrix were alive today, which Fuzz Face would he want us to have?

I have been told he actually loves the early big muff pedals... along with that Gibson V.

Hendrix might have had a different image had he lived even a few years longer.

Still wouldn't matter as he would still sound like himself.

He'd say something like, man, you don't need a pedal, just listen to that Mesa Boogie!

What if he had an appreciation for the land mine form factor?

So I blew all my money on a Gibson instead of getting a Rectifier. It’s okay; there will be other chances. That Explorer was exactly what I wanted.

He would have made the Metal Zone sound good.

Yes, but let’s try to focus on round pedals that mortals could use to sound slightly more like Hendrix.

ZVex Fuzz Factory

I haven’t been able to get into their stuff so far, but given how well regarded some of the pedals are, it seems like a good one to check out.

Either the light blue Jimi or tan Eric Johnson, which was designed to sound like EJ's best vintage units.

I have the Jimi, EJ, and copper Bonamassa.

I mostly subscribe to the practice over pedal idea though.
Nothing sounds worse than hack through a fuzz pedal.

The big versions?

He’d tone stack them all.

I think this is true.... with the knobs set right it’s basically a Fuzz Face and then goes whacko from there.

The circuit was inspired by Jimi’s Fuzz into Marshall tone. I’m not sure that I’ve ever heard that he tried one. If he did that’s interesting.

LPB, there are a ton of great Fuzz Face pedals out there now. If you want Silicon, the Dunlops are as good as any (Teal Hendrix, Puke colored EJ) but of course the Analogman Sunface is available in a ton of options. If you are looking for a Germanium, you need to be a little more selective. The Bonamassa one is pretty good, but small builders like Analogman, JAM, BMF and others are matching up great transistor pairs. It’s a journey!

Jimi didn't play miniature versions of gear. :D

I like how unfriendly the full-size units are to pedalboards. First, they are comically outsized. The input and output jacks are reversed from what we’ve come to expect. They don’t have LED’s. And they don’t take DC input from a power supply.

I like the idea of grabbing an effect that won’t fit on my pedalboard, and just plopping it down on the floor because it’s worth the space it takes up and any other inconveniences.

It's a Fuzz Face with knobs for circuit bending. It's all the tone plus a lot of psychedelia.

He'd be rocking the models from a Line6 M13

Re: If Jimi Hendrix were alive today, which Fuzz Face would he want us to have?

Actually, I'd hope he wouldn't be using any and his music would have moved on from that sound.

Re: If Jimi Hendrix were alive today, which Fuzz Face would he want us to have?

He’d either be using fractal/kemper or his rig would look like John Mayer’s latest rig. I really do wonder what he’d being doing over the decades.

Re: If Jimi Hendrix were alive today, which Fuzz Face would he want us to have?

I don’t think he’d be playing a Fuzz Face.

Jimi was an innovator...always moving forward.

The rest of us just follow.

I think Jimi’d be making new music with virtuosos from all fields.

Guys like Bela Fleck, Wynton Marsalis and gosh knows who else.

I doubt 45 years later he’d be interested in sounding like he did in 1967 or 68.
