If my power amp ever dies...

Re: If my power amp ever dies...

if one can get past the ethical stigma of behringer/bugera and all that, yes. features-wise, it's killer and at a great price. can't speak for its reliability, but nowadays where a $2,500 amp is "affordable," it's basically free when you think about how much a trip to the tech is versus buying a replacement. not that I want to live in a world of disposable amps, lol.

there's just such a shortage of nice affordable power amps, and to think you can get an EL-34 one you don't have to have biased, that tells you when tubes are going bad, that's awesome.

I sometimes wonder why all the major music companies don't file a class action lawsuit against Behringer. It seems like an open and shut case.

I think it's because they steal from each other so often.

Honestly, Fender could have probably take out all of their competition years ago. Everything is based on fender designs it seems.

I'm all for behringer. If they can produce the same quality for half the price of the Chinese amps made by major companies (and be making money selling less units), the legitimates would be rip offs.

I'd hit that;

Re: If my power amp ever dies...

yes, a night train at half price with about the best upgrade a non-techie person like me could hope for - an amp that would never need to be taken to a tech for a tube change that also tells you when a tube is going bad. looking past the name, it's close to my theoretical perfect amp.

I really like the tube test and self biasing feature. Imagine that thing with a pair of KT-77's in it.

All the Fender amps are taken out of the 1930's tube manufacturers stock circuit books.

Re: If my power amp ever dies...

I'm not knocking the idea of getting a good amp for cheap. Heck, even the major brands make Chinese amps.

I'm talking about how Bugera clones their trademark aesthetics and knob layouts.

Re: If my power amp ever dies...

Lots of Marshall clones around that look like Marshalls/have the same/similar tolex/knobs/faceplates/layouts etc. Honestly ...as long as the said clone costs an arm and a leg ..it's respectable/GAS-inducing/awesome etc. When it falls below a certain price point (&/or it's made in China)...the same thing turns from a clone into a into a rip-off...

I think Bugera tweaks it's circuits enough to circumvent being (successfully) sued...whether or not that's morally wrong or outrageous does'nt mean much in purely legal terms..

I think Uli Behringer just gets a kick showing folk how much it really costs to build their (outrageously marked-up) favourite amps. Sure, he makes sure he does'nt step too hard on anyone's toes...so it's plastic knobs instead of metal/PCB mounted instead of chassis/mini components instead of full-sized etc...but the truth is he could easily upgrade all that for a few more bucks apiece & still have a couple of thousand $$$ as difference between his "identically spec'd" amp and the one it's "ripping off" (..which leads me to wonder who's really doing the ripping off?). As has already been mentioned here (& is pretty widely known) everyone's just copying/modding everyone else designs anyway. If anything the "Infinium" tech is more "revolutionary" than anything in the last 30 or so years of amp making..

@ Dankstar: All the Bugera Infinium models bias/monitor tubes the way that T-50 does....and in all cases the more expensive amp's the're "ripping off" don't..

yeah, I wish they'd just make their own unique-looking amp already, they seem to have the know-how.

I didn't start really pining for their clones until that feature popped up. I resisted the blow-out sales on the earlier clones that didn't have it, despite how cheap they were going for.

I don't see the rationale of buying a decked out multi-channel amp just to use it as a backup platform for a $100 pedal that is designed to emulate the real thing.

Wouldn't it be better to get a EHX Magnum 44 for less than half the price and a fraction of the footprint? Leave one in your guitar case and you'll always have a backup with you without even thinking about lugging one around.
