if you can choose any bass cab you want, what would it be?

Re: if you can choose any bass cab you want, what would it be?

ive always wanted to see one of those 21x5" cabs in real life.

i currently have a 1x15 ampeg, 4x10 swr and two 1x10 ampeg cabs with emi hemp cone neo speakers that i love so pretty much have everything covered. if i had roadies then id love the full svt rig, head and two 8x10s.

I never used folded horn in a bass rig but I did use them in P.A.

From what I had to deal with they tend to take some rooms really badly, so badly that it is outside of the power of a EQ to tame them. Very powerful and they might sound great in some setting. But drag them elsewhere and you can't reproduce it.

I mean they were OK for starved clubs and bands in the 1980s when lack of power was a serious problem (they had very good efficiency). But now I would rate them more as pets that bite.

I think the folded horn cabs offered by Phil Jones are dinosaurs. I don't know if they even still offer them, to be honest. The model 21B is the one I would choose anyway -- it has the same freq response as the 16x5 folded horn cab, similar power handling, and it weighs a lot less.

I like my Eden cabs.... Solid build and solid sound.

Eden 410 XLT cab for sure. Already have one of those fortunately :).

Y'all should check out the greenboy audio cabs.....

I know it isn't quite the same, but longcat & I have a fEARful 12/6 that is just amazing. It's as loud as most 4x10s and has deep low end like a 15. It's hard to play 'standard' style bass cabs any more once you've heard one.

Re: if you can choose any bass cab you want, what would it be?

My favorite cab was a Hartke 215XL with 2 15" aluminum cone drivers. Beast. My back grew tired over the years of hauling it up and down icy stairs, down narrow hallways and hauling it up and down the stairs in my house when I was gigging with it. I always ran it with a Hartke 210 cab too but ideally I would like an Ampeg 8x10" along with the Hartke 2x15"

Like Jeremy said, if I had roadies...
