If you could have one tone for the rest of your life, what would it be?

just curious to see how dedicated forumites are to their tone. If you could only have one tone or level of gain and you couldn't change settings what would it be?

I'd keep my Ts9 with drive on 5 and tone on 7 with my bandmaster and strat of course. Semi-clean, thick SRV tone.

:smack: If I'd have found it, I'd stop buying all this gear! :smack:

I'd have to have a good high gain sound, but it'd have to respond to the volume knob well. I can live without prestine cleans, but I can't live without high gain!

slashs clean and lead sounds. with the ability to clean up with the volume knob. id never need any other sound.

There's this cool sound you get with heavy gain into an autowah with mild settings. When you ease off, you get a cool honky sound but when you dig in, the voice opens up (and if you do it well, you can make it sound more like a function of the dynamics than a wah) it really adds a sense of energy that I dig. I'd use that.

the only thing you could change is the volume knob.

I'd switch to Trombone if I could have only one tone

i play trombone /\ /\ /\

for me, jimi hendrix a la Little Wing, Hey Joe

Re: If you could have one tone for the rest of your life, what would it be?

HMMMM, probabally SRVs Little Wing tone.

Bluesbreakers.

'nuff said.

Re: If you could have one tone for the rest of your life, what would it be?

right know i would have to go with a strat, middle/neck position, through a vox AC30, with a some smooth warm OD dialed in (but not too much). ask me in a week, ill probably have a different asnwer.

STPs tone on Plush and Interstate Love Song etc.

Chimey, defined, gritty, and airy.

Either that or Slash's generic tone ;) warm and... the word tubular always comes to mind.

slade

that one time I hit an old kettle with a rusty spoon

beautiful....

Re: If you could have one tone for the rest of your life, what would it be?

hmmm..if we are talking unrealistically..gosh I don't know..Michael Schenker's tone on ONaB? Randy's tone on Diary of a Madman? Jake's tone on Voodoo HIghway? Mathias' tone on World Wide Live? John Sykes on Blue Murder?

But right now I'm pretty happy with the settings on my MESA. rolls off nice with the volume knob too. It's kind of a cross between the crunchy sound of a cranked plexi and 800 for rhythms..but when you play leads it has that singing/crying MESA quality. Can't wait to get my pups and hear what happens.

Re: If you could have one tone for the rest of your life, what would it be?

clean, a dash of reverb.

Re: If you could have one tone for the rest of your life, what would it be?

i'm trying to find it...it's close with my Alnico 2 pro neck and my tech 21 on the tweed setting....i have a sneaking suspicion that if i had an actual fender tweed tube amp...ala 59 bassman...i'd soooo be there!!!???

one of these days... :burnout:

Re: If you could have one tone for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I'd own a mint JMI-era Vox AC-30. Chimey cleans to solid rock tones in one package. My amp I have now can get just about everything I could want, but there's no denying a true vintage piece.

Hendrix's funky R&B through a Marshall rythym tone.

Clapton's soloing tone with Cream.
