if you had to choose ...

what would be the ultimate Single coil pickup in this situation:
1. strat style guitar
2. alder body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard
3. standard strat trem
4. the only other pickup on the guitar would be a JB and would only be used with the JB when the JB is split
5. styles include: Rock, Heavy Rock, Blues, a little metal and a little jazz.

all options would be considered but I am leaning to a true single coil pup. Not a noiseless or a single sized bucker.

thanks to all

Re: if you had to choose ...

id say a ssl1 or antiquity II surfer for a lower output brighter option
a ssl5 or surfer custom bridge would be hotter and thicker.

250k pots or 500k?

Personally, I like the APS-2. It's still a traditional single, but since it's alnico II and has flat poles, it will be warmer and have more mids, thus mixing better with humbuckers.

Ultimate? First of all it wouldn't be a JB...it would be a Level 3 AL-V Humbucker by Aero Instrument like this one:

Single coil middle would be Larry/Aero's Alnico III single coil and the neck would be Larry/Aero's Alnico V single coil "Neck pickup that no one asks to return" like this one:

3 way switch...no 5 way for me. Larry's don't need it. You said "ultimate" and I answered.

Definitely a JB Jr in the bridge.

Or go Dimarzio VV's and a Air Norton or Virtual Hot PAF, or Evo 2 in the bridge
