if you had to pick one of these three....

ok, so this basically combines a couple of my previous posts:

right now i have the choice to pick up an analogman sunface, a russian green sovtek big muff, or a catalinbread teaser stallion. i only afford one (sadly), which would you chose and why?

i play mostly bluesy/rock stuff. also a lot of jamband stuff, not deadhead jam but the type of jam that can get a little crazy...think a little phish and a lot of umphreys mcgee and moe style

Re: if you had to pick one of these three....

I've never heard of the other two, but have only heard great things about the green Muffs. So that's what i'd get.

Re: if you had to pick one of these three....

All three are nice pedals, but all are very different. What amp are you using?

To summarize, the Sunface is basically in the extreme upper eschelon of Fuzz Face clones, the standard Big Muff is a step closer to a distortion than a fuzz but it's still very much a fuzz, but the Green Sovtek is even closer to a distortion than a fuzz. Finally, the Catalinbread is pure distortion, with some of the crazy over the top Fuzz Factory style glitching too. It really comes down to waht you are looking for. The Sunface is great for that fuzz face tone, but it needs a good amp to shine. The other two will do well with most amps, try them on the clean channel for best results.

BTW - There are some good Youtube clips of all three, listen and see what strikes your fancy.

Re: if you had to pick one of these three....

the problem is that i dont have the chance to try before i buy as it were. im playing through a fender super reverb and a blues junior for practice.

all of the clips on youtube im finding for the TS are all demonstrating the chaos channel which i am not that interested in.

as far as the bluesy part goes, im looking for some thick claptonesque/cream tones for which i think the sunface may be best suited. for the jam part im looking for something that can stay fairly articulate for single note runs but can really dirty up on a triad or something

Re: if you had to pick one of these three....

i think id go for the stallion. from what i understand the first channel is a great distortion generator, its only when the second channel is activated that things go crazy
