Yeah, when I actually start actively shopping (probably this spring or summer) I'll probably try and keep myself under $1k. I'll still be having to pay for rent and school, etc. . Darn "responsibility".

Bingo! Exact reasons why I looked at them. Then when I played, the deal was sealed! Plus, it has one of the best neck shapes of any Strat. It's a soft V up until the 6-7th fret, then transistions to a nice chunky C. Very fine feeling neck. It's one of the only guitars I've ever bought that I didn't feel I needed to mod right out of the box. I got a great deal on one at the local GC, much lower than the price quotes here. Here's mine, still stock except for an aged white accesory kit.

I gotta say, even though I play my Pauls more lately, I'm primarily a strat player, and after having had everything from a MIJ, all the way up to a couple $2300 Custom Shops, a 54 reis. and 60's Relic, I've found that my very best playing/sounding strat is a 97 American Std. strat I bought for $500 used, then put Fender CS Fat 50's in it.
In front of any strat fans I meet, I have fun by dialing in an amp nicely, then swapping all my strats, and making them choose which one sounds the best, to their ears.
Every time, my 97 Alder Sunburst/Rosewood American Std with Fat 50's. It's unbeatable.

My choice would be a white 62 RI with a set of Antiquity Surfers in it. I've never tried the Antiquity Surfers, but I have two Strats with Antiquity Texas Hots and I figure I couldn't go wrong with them.
