I'll be ampless for a year!

I'll still have a decent pedalboard but I won't have any amp... no room.

Basically I'm hoping that this will heavily increase my techniques, in particular:

I'd be playing more songs normally played on accoustic
I'll have to work way harder to make my legatos more even

Has anyone ever gone entirely unamped for a while? I won't have an accoustic, just electrics.

Re: I'll be ampless for a year!

Why will you still have a pedal board then?

I went without an amp for 6 months. No fun, at all.

Re: I'll be ampless for a year!

Because I love pedals, and these are pedals I simply will not get rid of. Presents, pedals I built or just useful stuff for gigs for instance. My pedalboard is not just a tone enhancer to me, but it's a big part of my sound if I ever need to play through a PA. That and I was toying with the idea of getting a tiny Vox valvetronix or... something like that.

Re: I'll be ampless for a year!

ampless sucks...i had to do that for almost a year once!!!! horrible! at least i had an acoustic though!

do yourself a favor and go ahead and get one of those little vox amps!!!

Re: I'll be ampless for a year!

I read a post a while back that said when you play unamplified, you get sloppy because you can't hear your mistakes as well. It is certainly true in my case. I keep a little Kustom tube practice amp out in the living room where I play most often so I can hear what I'm playing. It keeps me honest.

I have a bunch of acoustic guitars. I go ampless every day for at least an hour or 2.

Re: I'll be ampless for a year!

Pauvre Pierre ! Even though I quite enjoy playing unplugged from time to time, noddling around, I can imagine ampless to be a not too enjoyable situation.

You would think you should be able to work out something with your VC15. I know these can be loud but you should be able to have a descent sound at low level too.

So I don't supposed you would be interested in my 80w Marshall :scratchch.

A real shame man.

Re: I'll be ampless for a year!

I'm selling my amp to get money :) My VC15 is an amazing piece of kit and it had become a central piece to 'my' tone. I just need money and I wouldn't have space for it anyway :(

The Pocket POD is the first thing on my list.

Re: I'll be ampless for a year!

I play unplugged late at night when I don't feel like playing the acoustic. When I bought the acoustic I didn't play any electric for over a month and my playing got a lot better. One time when I moved and had to wait to move into a new house I only had my epi and it sucked a lot.

Re: I'll be ampless for a year!

On the bright side if you play with an acoustic for a year you'll be significantly better when you jump back onto the ol' electric train again. You have nothing to distort your mistakes, to make something sound good you have to really nail everything, and the neck, and strings are usually much thicker.

Re: I'll be ampless for a year!

I only wish I could play accoustic for a year... I don't have one though and without an income I can't afford one either. It's just gonna be electric...
