I'm a Believer

Well..I just bit the bullet and purchased a used Fender Hot Rod Deville 2x12 Tube amp, and all I can say is... :32: :32: :32: This is a major leap forward from solidstate, and though economical, and good for beginners, has NO COMPARISON IN SOUND. The clean sound on this amp is so NATURAL. It's so creamy and smoothe, with actual echoes, not digital sounding stuff. Man I'm a believer, I'll never go back to solid state, NEVER! :burnout: I paid 360$ for this amp, what a deal, the thing looks mint. Except for one little issue, I barely notice it, only when it's cranked, and I mean cranked, it sounds a tube or something is rattling, how can this be fixed? Other than that, it was the best 360$ I've spent. A backbreaker it feels like it's 70lbs..70lbs of...CREAM :saeek: :laugh2:

Re: I'm a Believer

I never cared for the overdrive channel, but those cleans are some of Fender's best! and doam loud too

Re: I'm a Believer

Yep, the cleans are what really matters to me, I can use a pedal to get a more artificial sound, but this is a keeper, and for 350$ I figured I couldn't go wrong. Anyone know what the rattling sound at high volumes could be? A tube perhaps?

Re: I'm a Believer

in the back of the amp there are tube holders that look like 2 metal rings on each side of the tube. They have one way teeth. Take the tubes out, bend the two rings together, and slip the tube back in. This should prevent the tubes from shaking. Another good test is to flick the tubes when on to see if they are microphonic.

SS has it's place for sure, but even as much as the gap has been narrowed, NOTHING can touch a great tube amp for sound. Once you get used to them, it's tough to play anything else. The sound, the feel, dynamics, etc.

Re: I'm a Believer

i'm lusting for tubes right now too...we've been recording with a Concert Reverb...and it's just ......yummmmmmm... :32: :32: :32:

Re: I'm a Believer

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I'll try and record some soundclips later to "prove" my 350$ investment :) This DeVille is just cherry.
