I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

Man....he is rather tardy Mr 80's eh??!!!!!
Later this season I might have some stuff you might wanna try:)
Yeah budget is always a good start.....
Maybe look for old ESP Navigators or 400's??

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

Ah I'm curious now! I've not seem much from CM as of late :/ Then again apart from that delay, my pedalboard is pretty much complete.. :D I've stopped buying guitar things ages ago :(

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

Yep. The time has come. I haz job, therefore I need Fender Stratocaster. Fact of life.

I have a Highway1 series right now which I modded a bit. LOVE it. But I want something noticeably superior to it. There's nothing about it I don't like. But I know I can get better.

Ash or Alder (don't mind)
9.5'' Radius
Non tiny vintage frets
I don't mind 21 frets but I do prefer 22
Hardtail is preferred, but I guess I'll put up with a vintage trem. I'd rather not go for a two points but well, if I have to...
I like slightly hotter than normal Strat pickups, but still Strat pickups... No huge treble spike for me...
Hence why I'd probably prefer a rosewood board too
SMALL headstock. Please. Or ideally, reversed... :D A man can dream
Nice C or light V back neck shape. I like it to fill in the hand nicely so I can avoid cramps
I prefer the vintage colors... Lake Placid Blue, CAR, etc...

There's not much choice locally to try things... Luxembourg isn't exactly the Stratocaster's immigration place of choice.

Throw some at me!

I'll be honest right now I'm looking at the Fender Classic Player 60s, 50s, the Fender US Standard series and er... that's pretty much it. :/
Thanks!

Well, for suggestions in order of price (and either semi widely available or with international shipping)

Custom Classic - http://wildwoodguitars.com/electrics/fender/cst_clsc_ts/cz512859/cz512859.php

Has a two point trem though. With hotter pickups, V-shape neck, CS quality

62 Hotrod - http://www.themusiczoo.com/product/4564/Fender-Vintage-Hot-Rod-62-Stratocaster-3-Tone-Sunburst/

Has a MASSIVE (for me) neck though

The Classic Player 60's is Mexican (which some may say if inferior to US built instruments, but it's up to the individual guitar), has a 12" radius and the pickups are very vintage. 2 point trem as well. I own it, and for me it's a fantastic guitar for the money, nearly on par quality with my 57 reissue.

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

Yeah those classic players are serious instruments. I've played a couple and was never disappointed: beautiful sound, solid build quality. There's one at a local store, but I wouldn't pay 700 euros for one :/

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

Have you considered looking at used Japanese Fenders?

I have 2 (1 Jap Fender and 1 Jap Squier) and play both more than I do my USA Standard. I dunno what it is, they just have 'it'. They can be had for relatively cheaply too (just incase that's a factor)

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

You'd really rather chance a partscaster rather than save up an extra $100 and leave the store with something you like?

I dunno man, you already probably have the bar set pretty high with your other one, and parts guitars never sound exactly how you imagine and have total **** resale value...

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

... le PM sent.

There's no aftermarket in Luxembourg at all. So second hand is out of the question until I get an ebay.de account setup, which I guess is a possibility...

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

was going to suggest you get yourself a new squire, mod the fck out of it, figure out what you like then order it...

but then i saw matt's duncan strat

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

Exactly!

You really should buy Matts guitar Pierre, if not only to stop me from getting it instead as I need to save for my Splawn! :D

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

Mhm that reminded me in fact...

I still want a Musicman Silhouette BAD. These were the perfect guitars for me.

But go find them reasonably priced in Europe :(

Silouhette special (22 frets), hardtail, HSS or SSS, in blue... niiiice...

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

Dude unless you're gonna get a custom shop relic or something you're wasting your time. The Highway 1 is the best mass-produced Fender being built right now...all the others are coated in plastic and feel cheap.

When I'm at my store I don't even waste time with any Strats that aren't Highway 1's or custom shop...i know that sounds crazy but the rest just don't feel alive. Some play great, sound great, sure...they're just...coated in plastic...

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

To be honest I was having a strum with the H1 last night... and I'll be damned if she isn't LOUD and proud sounding. I love this guitar. Sound wise, I doubt I could find something incredibly better lest I spend 1,500 euros more. But build quality and specs wise, I want something closer to what i want out of a Strat :)

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

In the upper price class, I'd look at G&Ls, Suhrs, and Tylers.

Or if you're set on all those specs, Warmoth..

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

Buy a stick...wallaham it, and put in some bonegrinder singlebucker p-99s with metal housings, use only sticks from Louisiana swamps....
Remember to assemble it under a red moon!
Preferly at the location of Spitzbergen!
Oi!
:D
And cover the dratted thing in rubber and toneplastic!
P'S use Alceramic 98 magnet hybrids with electro controlled gaussing!
Order it all from Wermouth!
The turtle rules at high speeds!

And put Becks guitarshop while you are at it!!
...hehe

I found it.

A 2,750 euros Custom shop 60s Strat in I think Daphne blue or some kind of light blue.

Best guitar I have EVER played. Absolutely incredible. I almost cried :(

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

best strat I ever played was a CS model too- a 63? a 65? Closet Classic In LPB- amazing guitar that had everything- Looks, HUGE tone, and played like butter even with the toothpick frets. One I'll likely never forget- stupidly I spent the money instead on a very pretty, tonally average guitar. I later went back to buy that Strat and of course it was gone.

Don't make the same mistake I did! :D

Exactly. A good custom shop reissue is a completely different class of beast from anything MIM in a factory.

Most of the old guys i know that play serious guitar (and don't have vintage pieces) play Custom Shop Fenders and Gibsons exclusively...because they're frickin incredible.

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

The day I play a Gibson is the day I turn English! That or it's an SG :D

Yeah... I played a US Std Strat and tonally it didn't feel better than my HW1. In fact my HW1 is noticeably thicker and much louder in sound acoustically.

An American 60s reisue sounded a lot better than the Am Standard however. But in this country it cost 1,500 euros. No way.

There's a second hand CS 60s for 1,790 euros at the same shop where I saw the blue one. But it's closet classic and has some light finish relicing which I don't like. It didn't sound or play as well either but that's because the strings were too low for me I think (I'm used to strings being about 5mm off the frets).

This second hand CS MAY be in my capabilities within the end of the summer but this one is a dream that'll fly past I fear... :( What a guitar. I'd never felt so emotional and excited at playing an instrument before. Incredible.

Re: I'm a bit out of touch with the music world: which higher end Fender for me?

^ Sounds like that's the one you need to get. Talk to the shop about layaway...
