I'm buying a pickup today. What should I get for my Marshall?

I've been messing around with my 50 watt plexi reissue. Basically trying to mod the crap out of it and get as much gain as possible without the use of pedals. I'm getting pretty good results but I'm using fairly low output pickups ... an EVH, an alnico V loaded Seth Lover, and a Demon. For some reason the Demon isn't sounding so good with this setup ... too bright and not thick enough.

One of the problems I'm having is the low end. The inherent nature of the 50 watter is a softer low end, and I want some tight chunk!! Think higher gain 80s metal.

I think a higher output pickup is the way to go ... either a Distortion, JB, or C5 (don't like the regular custom). No CC because I've already got a ton of mids.

Here's a clip of my progress so far, to give you an idea of where my tone is going. This is with my A5 loaded EVH in a walnut/maple Warmoth strat.

It's the first clip called "gain".

Bring on the suggestions!

id say C5 if you want more bass

Distortion or JB if you want more tight tones for metal type of stuff......C5 is more vintage and open sounding.....

dont think you can go wrong either way......

DD/59 + Marshall = Tone Machine !

Well, I want a really tight low end, so I guess the C5 is out. Now it's between the good ol JB and Distortion.

The C5 has the tightest low end of any pickup I've tried. If you get enough midrange from your amp, I think the C5 will work really well for you.

Have you actually heard a Custom Custom? They sound awesome through a cranked Marshall. Lew

Lew, I'm only guessing with the CC because I've swapped A2 magnets in and out of my Demon, EVH, and Seth Lover ... and prefer the A5 in all of them. My 50 watter is a midrange machine so I think I've got too much of a good thing going! :D

Since I feel that the Demon is too bright, are any of the above mentioned pickups equal in brightness?

Okay, I didn't make it to the store today, so I have a little more time to decide.

I can't choose! :(

Dude go the JB, its pretty darn tight and has a fair bit of chunk.

Thats what i think anyway :D

Definitely from that clip i rekon you put a JB in that guitar, and with that setup it would crank!

I like the Invader, but it might be a bit low end heavy for walnut, so maybe a Full Shred.

Can't go wrong with a JB man, it's one of the best pups, especially for 80's stuff.
