I'm going to do something naughty with my Black Beauty..

You all know the deal. Pickguard, three golden pickups, gold hardware, etc

Just took off the pickguard, now this is what I'm planning on doing. Three silver cover pickups. H/P90/H or P90/P90/H

Silver hardware

And the final touch... a silver Bigsby.

I wish I had the photoshop skills to see how this will turn out. I'm afraid I might really regret it... But I'm too curious to resist it!

Edit: I'm also considering no cover for the Midde PUP, not sure yet

Oh god. That's going to be gorgeous! I can't decide if I'm more excited by the pickup configuration or the Bigsby.

Post pics as it comes along!

Isn't there some online program out there that allows you to simulate different guitar configurations. I believe there is.

Peace,

Is this before or after you pop the decal out of the headstock.

I like your plans though. It is very naughty....that makes you a Naughty Weiner.

Great idea! I rewired an SG Custom with a HB/P-90/HB, and it came with a maestro vibrola. A thin-bodied version of what you're doing.

Re: I'm going to do something naughty with my Black Beauty..

How are you gonna wire them? That sounds a bit tricky. If you want to go all the way, put in coil taps or splits, all different combinations of coils and before you know it, you got a jazzmaster control panel on it!

Re: I'm going to do something naughty with my Black Beauty..

Sorry for the whole screen shot, but I made a quick mock up of what it would look like. I know the pups are all humbuckers, but I assume this is roughly what you are going for.

PS. Disregard my friend inviting me to go see zombieland tonight, lol.

What's the difference between a Maestro and a Bigsby?

Maestros are on a lot of 1960's SG Std's & Customs, a sheet metal vibrato with a thick, rugged bar & a big pastic handle that's nice to hold on to. There's no vibrato handle that's better. To my eyes, it's the best-looking vibrato there is. Gives a guitar class, even if you never use it. Not made for that wild Steve Vai chimpanzee stuff, but works fine for reasonable use.

In my SG Custom, I wired it like this:

Bridge - it's own 250K volume & tone, both push-pulls for coil cut & phase (and I can get either coil active in coil cut).

Neck/Middle - share a 500K blend pot for volume, so I can dial in any amount of either PU. A 500K tone pot is connected to the blend pot. The tone pot is a push-pull for coil cut on the neck HB.

This wiring makes switching from middle to bridge, and neck to bridge, very quick; just flip the toggle. Great for going from chords to solos & back on stage. I think there's 25 or 30 different PU combinations, and the guitar looks stock from the outside.

The stock Gibson/Epiphone wiring on HHH guitars is flagrantly uninspired & doesn't even begin to tap into the potential of all those coils.

Re: I'm going to do something naughty with my Black Beauty..

Sounds like a winner to me! Isn't the J.P one a 3 pick up with Bigsby?? Look forward to see the pics and review.

Re: I'm going to do something naughty with my Black Beauty..

Thanks for the info!

I was planning on a three way switch but with a push pull to split the neck and bridge PUPs... I don't even know how to go about the wiring though, aha

If this one goes well too, you can bet I'll pop out the headstock too :14:

Since I am a wiring fanatic, I'd suggest you have the bridge humbucker wired for series parallel and coil cut. (Requires a DPDT on/on/on switch).

The neck and middle P90's could be thought of as 2 coils of one humbucker (make sure you get one P-90 that is RWRP of the other). Using 2 SPDT switches you could wire the 2 P-90's for Neck Only, Middle Only, Both in parallel or Both in Series.

Just my idea on the subject.

Re: I'm going to do something naughty with my Black Beauty..

Ok, I changed my mind about one thing

I want the middle PUP to be black or cream, no cover. But I think there aren't any uncovered P90's :|

I can't think of any HB that would suit that position though

A middle HB sounds very different then the same PU does in the bridge or neck slot. Totally different sound, and not a better sound either.
