I'm hoping you guys can give me a hand...

Well, I've got a Jackson RR3 and I'm playing through a Marshall MG (I know, I know) and I'm looking to play metal. My influences are (very breif) Shadows Fall, Nevermore, Children Of Bodom, Pantera, Ozzy ect. I've heard a lot of people recomend Seymour Duncan pickups to me. I am looking for a humbucker by the way.

I have "Duncan Design" pickups in my guitar right now and they're pretty good, so this leads me to think "Well, if these are the cheaper one's, how good are the good ones?". I am interested in the SH-6, but on this website the soundclips make them sound very-thin-and-weak sounding.

I am looking for a pickup that has a nice thick and crunchy sound when I palm mute and really hits you in the face when I strike a choard hard. Also, I would like to have a really nice "sharp" lead sound. I know that this is not a very good post, but this is the best way I can describe what I'm looking for.

I know what I want, I just need someone to build it for me.

Well, whatever you get, the RR3 has a trem, so get the trembucker/f-spaced version.

Welcome to the board. Seems like you're on the right track. The SH6 is one of, if not THE best pickup for Metal, IMO. Keep in mind the soundclips were recorded using moderate gain. The Distortion does NOT sound thin and weak. It is tight, thick and agressive. And yes, I find most of the time Seymour Duncans sound better than "Duncan Designed" models. For the neck, you can go with another SH6, a JB, a Full Shred or a Jazz.

Dude, you need a new amp first. Great though new pickups can be, until you have a better amp you won't hear any difference at all.

btw the SH-6 is what Randy Rhodes had in his ;)

*Craps his pants* Okay that's it, I must have this pickup now!

So, this pickup has a thick bottom right? And a really "bright" high?

Thank you all for the reply's by the way.

Re: I'm hoping you guys can give me a hand...

First off I want to mention that I was the one who reccomended Treg to come on here because you guys are a great help for all and helped me chose the right pup for me (TB-5).
Now, Randy used Dimarzio SuperDistortins, I don't know if he ever had a SD dist? He used JB's soemtimes too I beleive.
As for Danno13, he makes a great point but his Marshall MG isnt liek a 15 watter, so he WILL be able to tell, but I still suggest a new amp.

As for pickup suggestion I say TB-6 (if you have a trem) or SH-6 (if you dont) I forgot what you told me.

Re: I'm hoping you guys can give me a hand...

The DD is not thin at all. Palm mutes are good and chunky, strummed chords are nice and creamy under high-gain. Assuming your amp is decent, I think you will be happy.

Re: I'm hoping you guys can give me a hand...

If you're turned off by the SH-6, I highly reccomend the SH-5. Sounds like a perfect fit for you.

BTW - If you're penny-pinching at the moment and want a dramatic improvement for your MG series amplifier...do yourself a favor, and not only get the pickup, but grab a good EQ pedal. It'll do wonders for your tone.

Re: I'm hoping you guys can give me a hand...

i tried a distortion on the bridge of a les paul i use to have and i really didnt like it , thin, too trebbly, lacks of bass, way too hot , and this was thru a 5150 ! :yell: if you want killer, agressive, metal tone go for a emg set 81/85

He used a Dimarzio Super Dist/PAF combo in his Sandoval polka dot V.

His Jackson V's all had Seymour Duncan Distortion in the bridge and Jazz in the neck. I don't think he ever used a JB.

His Les Paul had stock Gibson PAF's.

I was going for the EMG's at first, but then someone I know (sorta) said that the DD is loads better. I think I still might go for 'em, just waiting on a little more feedback from you guys.
