. . . sorry mate, but i have to agree w. Lil' Robert on this one !

Your 1st & main problem lays with your amp !

(so you probably know this already)

A valve amp WILL help your tone MUCH more than a VERY GOOD dirt-box !

I know all about very expensive gear and hard-to-come-by-equipment !

NONE of my stores in my city has a single valve amp on their floors (or anywhere else in the shop for that matter !)

I had to put down 100% of the asking price, BEFORE they ordered my lil Blues Jr. for me !

It cost me $800.00 USD for an amp that is still below $400.00 in the US !:damnit:

Also, the $40.00 Bad Monkey is $250.00 USD in my city !
(i did score a 12-hour-old TS9 RI, for $65.00 though !!!)

Back to your problem !

Even though i will probably be very hard & expensive, PLEASE try and sort out your amp first !

A Brilliant pedal will not make your amp sound any better !
Yes, it will colour it, and give it a diff. voicing, but you will insult your pedal, regardless of price !

OK, vintage pedals !

I s'pose vintage means diff. things to diff. folks all over !

What type of vintage tone are you after ?

I'm asking, because i see people is talking about GN'R as vintage these days, AND i saw them on the cover of my fav. mag, "Classid Rock" more than once already !

(FWIW, my 'other' fav. mag is the Brittish guitar mad, "GUITARIST" - i am sure you feel much better know that you know that  )

Re: im looking for vintage overdrive tone..

I like Boss overdrive pedals, but they go best with tube amps. With your current amp, a regular distortion pedal might be cool, especially if your amp has built-in distortion with which you can mix varying levels. But the first big step would be to look for a strong amp. I don't know how much you are willing to spend right now, but look up Ceria Tone, who are based in Malaysia. They supply kits or preassembled amps (depending on your preference) based on some of the most famous and desirable vintage amps. They also cost quite a bit less than the real things, but you would still have to factor in the price of an addional speaker cabinet. Either way, in the long run, it is a cool option to consider.

A pedal won't even come close to getting you there.

Take the other's advice and get a tube amp.

+1. I did not know they were made there. Check out their site and get one of the lower powered amps.

Good Luck!

Re: im looking for vintage overdrive tone..

You've got two obstacles to overcome-

First, you're in Malaysia (are you in Kuala Lampur? Do you know a Slash type player by the name of Riz?) That limits what's easily available.

Second, you're not going to get a "vintage overdrive tone" out of a box. For foolin' around at lower volumes, I've always used my Barber Direct Drive- it's a great box- especially for $110. Lately I've also been using my old Boss SD-1- I forgot how good that pedal is. If you're trying to get "in the neighborhood" a pedal might do it for you- but once you get used to a real tube amp overdrive- it's really hard to go back to pedals.

Re: im looking for vintage overdrive tone..

If you're in Malaysia and its easy enough to for you come down to Singapore, there are alot more options and it is cheaper.

Re: im looking for vintage overdrive tone..

wow, I don't know how you guys can afford to buy amps and dirt boxes in your respective countries. Hell I can barely afford to do it here in the good ole U.S.A. Is there just not that much of a demand for guitars and amps over there?
