i'm nearing my PUP decision

i bought a used '98 sunburst les paul and the neck pickup has a fault. i figured this would be a great time to upgrade to some seymour duncan A2's. at first i was thinking of an APH-1n and pearly gates bridge combo but that was before i heard the sound comparison with the slash signatures. those things had the balls i'm looking for in a bridge and it matches what i play (gn'r, 70s rock, and the blues). I'm almost set on a slash model for the bridge and the only thing that's holding me back from committing to a slash model for the neck is that everyone here seems to die for the pearly gates in that spot. at the same time, i set the aph-1's aside considering the slash model is similar but slightly more aggressive. some people have said the slash is too heavy for the neck, some say the PG are too bright for the neck, so i know opinions differ. it wouldn't be wise for me to buy without hearing other's feedback which is why i came here. and lastly, i read the slash's complement each other perfectly. would the PGn balance well with slash in the bridge?

by the way, can you tell i like slash...

Re: i'm nearing my PUP decision

The PGN is the all-time favorite neck PU here in an LP. Lots of fans. LP's are dark by nature, and you need to go a little brighter in a neck PU to prevent mud. I don't think I've heard a bad comment about a PGN in an LP. You won't be disppointed.

Re: i'm nearing my PUP decision

I've yet to try a PG, in either bridge OR neck. But I do have A2Pros in a couple of Epi Les Paul's (one bridge model, one neck) and I love em. If you're into Slash, you can't go wrong.

+1 for the PGn humbucker BUT it must be covered.

Welcome to the forum, BTW. :D

In that case, APH-1.

IMO, if you can only afford one Slash sig HB, the neck pos is the one to get.

Re: i'm nearing my PUP decision

I beg to differ.

Seriously? You think lack of a cover would make such a big difference that he should buy a totally different pickup to the one you recommended? Couldn't he compensate for the slight lack of sparkle by using a different (1K?) pot?

I wouldn't have thought anyone would see a cover as such a big factor, although I take your word for it, I know you know your stuff.
Your sig is proof. :naughty:

Re: i'm nearing my PUP decision

thanks for the responses so far guys. just to clarify, both pickups will be uncovered and money isn't a problem

Yessiree, Jim-Bob. I can't wait to see the launch of the Martin Barre MDT signature model. :eyecrazy: Wonder what pickups he will choose?

Doesn't matter. As long as HE'S playing them, they'll sound freakin' AWESOME DUUUUDDDDDE!
"Minstrel In The Gallery" has the best classic rock guitar tone, probably ever.
