I'm now a POD XT Live thru Atomic Reactor user!

Boy, this setup is friggin' awesome. I'm getting so many great tones out of this thing, I just wish I was a better player. (ha!) I have to admit that at first I was a little unsure about some of the tones but then with some input from AZ, instituteofnoise on this forum, I found that you have to tweak some of the EQ's a little and customize to whatever it is you're running it through and you're on your way to a great variety of high quality tones.

I play cover tunes for my own enjoyment and wanted something that would get me the sound of the songs I play so this is something that I'm really enjoying. Just thought I'd share my new excitement with you guys here on this forum.

congrats! isnt the atomic the best thing ever? im using the POD 2.0 through it and i love it. just out of curiosity, how do you adjust your eq's for the atomic? i usually roll off some bass and put the treble and mids around 7 or 8 (give or take a few notches), depending on the amp model im using and what i want it to do. im just looking for some suggestions. anyways, have fun with that thing, itll be your best friend.

Re: I'm now a POD XT Live thru Atomic Reactor user!

that's it. i'm telling my church to get one for me.
the pod im using now just broke. you will not believe how ghettofied it is right now.

Re: I'm now a POD XT Live thru Atomic Reactor user!

I just posted on my site in the POD section of my forum... a pile of patches I did for the NAMM show for the Atomic for Atomic. Hey Yngwie was using them to warm up with in his dressing room and it sounded friggin awesome. Neil Zaza was also using 2 Atomics on stage during his set and jamming with Nuno Bettencourt. Rockin!

Re: I'm now a POD XT Live thru Atomic Reactor user!

i've been contemplating getting an atomic to use with my pod XT but i worry how it does for high gain work...i have a killer mesa setting that i'd love to run through it but can the atomic do metal well? hows the low end response of the speaker? does it get all broken up and poppy sounding if you give it too much gain and bass?

Re: I'm now a POD XT Live thru Atomic Reactor user!

I use my XT with JBL EON powered speakers- it is great! I am guessing no XT software upgrades were showcased at NAMM....boooo.

Re: I'm now a POD XT Live thru Atomic Reactor user!

I've been leaning heavily into getting this setup for my new condo..Atomic w/ some sort of modeler.

It works no prob with the Pod XT/Live? (thats the new floorboard POD thing, correct?)

Re: I'm now a POD XT Live thru Atomic Reactor user!

If you are worried about high gain, stew on this... The show Atomic did for NAMM had many a shredder. Yngwie Malmsteen was one of them. I had one Atomic with the PODxt loaded with my patches sitting backstage. Yngwie asked if he could use it to warm up with in the dressing room. He was wailing away using one of my patches (SpinalAZATX in the link above) on the Line Spinal Puppet model. He was doing everything he does with his 3 Marshall heads on stage and sounded the same but scaled down. Seeing is believing! And to top it, the guy who has done many mods to Yngwie's Marshall gear, Harry Kolbe, is the guy who is designed the Atomic Amp.

The bottom end of the Atomic is big and fat. It's a closed back cab with a bass port. It's very focused due to this design.

Re: I'm now a POD XT Live thru Atomic Reactor user!

It's great for high-gain. I'm no tube-genius, but I have to say the atomic was the single best purchase I made since I bought the XT. Actually, since I haven't pulled the damn thing out since I bought the atomic, I'd have to say it's probably the best purchase I ever made period. =)

Re: I'm now a POD XT Live thru Atomic Reactor user!

ya the low end is really nice on the atomic. its very tight and boomy, and you can roll it out of there just fine by doing some eq. it can really do it all, even though its just a 112 combo.

Same thing here. With that bass port the low end is unbelievable. I'm loving the Plexi right now. Those patches that instituteofnoise linked to are terrific. Very little tweaking needed, I just added some more reverb to the 'sexyplexi' patch for VH tone. (nails it)

For anyone contemplating the POD bean vs. the XTL, the
Atomic is as big as a 2x12 and the XT Live will fit nicely right on top without covering the fan vent, so you can use it on top or on the floor, settling the internal debate you might have.

Yeah, no problem, your guitar goes into the XTL and your XTL goes into the return jack on back of the Atomic.

I'm very happy to see Harry get some real recognition after all the work he's done behind the scenes helping create killer tone for guitarists ... I'm one of his many satisfied clients!!

I've just been to the guitar shop round my way to see if one managed to sneak in early, no joy though...

Re: I'm now a POD XT Live thru Atomic Reactor user!

Matt read my earlier posts in this thread about using it for gigs. That should explain it.

Steve glad the patches worked for you. Since I had a Variax to dial them in I went back and forth bewteen the Strat and Les Paul models to capture as much of eeach in it so no tweaking would be needed at NAMM. They usually need personal adjustments for the axe you use, but they should be close.

By the way as far as micing them, Harry says the best way to mic a stereo setup is a clos mic on each speaker slighly off center and then one mic on one of the bass ports to blend in more bottom. If you only have a speaker mic, make sure you mic it angled slightly from left to right facing the amp, other wise it might pickup more of the bass port than you want.
