AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

I can't stand it anymore!!!!!!! No matter how hard I try I simply cannot get rid of the annoying humming/buzzing. It's a frickin Les Paul, it's not supposed to make any noise!

Yes, I don't have the proper tools. I only have a soldering iron and solder. Yes, I betcha I'm making a sloppy job of it, but I'm following the damn diagram and I'M SOOOOO FED UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why the hell do people charge so much to install pickups? I don't have one fricking person in my area that will do it. I have to travel loads, and the guy charges insane prices!!!!!!!

Whatever, I give up. I'm **** at this.

And the buzzing doesn't go away when I put my hand on the bridge.......

Any chance you can take a nice clear digital picture of the cavity of your LP?

Also...Tell me what drawing etc you used to wire up your LP...Maybe 1 of us can help you through it buddy...We can try at least...

Send me a photo if you can to jspina@tampabay.rr.com

Don't have a camera with me.......

What I would like is a picture of the toggle switch wires, since I have a feeling mine are a bit messed up.

Come by if you get the chance, I´ll do it for a sixpack if it can be done ;)

Thanks for the offer man! Pity I have no way to get to Germany....

I'm willing to pay a certain amount, but not extravagant over the top amounts. dentists know a heck of a lot more than someone who can install pickups does, so it should be worth more.

But that's totally irrelevant since I need to install the pickups, can't, and there's no one in my area.... *sigh*

Maybe it would be worth it to ship your LP to Zerb? You'd be sending it to someone we all trust and you'd also have a guitar that would be all "right" for you....Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and do yourself the right thing...it might cost you a few extra hard earned bucks, but you're talking also about a long term investment with a les paul..No? Let a pro fix it and don't drive yourself crazy buddy!

Check all your grounds, including the tailpiece ground.

Yeah, make sure the ground wire from the bridge is soldered, and that you've run ground wires from the back of all the pots to a central ground point. Some drawings don't show that step.

Same thing happened to me, except it was the wiring in my apartment causing the humming. The outlet I was plugging into wasn't grounded. Drove me nuts. Still get hum at the other outlets, just not as much.

Check it at different location before you take it to someone else. Grab a multi-meter also, it'll beep when the connection is good. Then check the resistance of all the ground connections, they should read zero.

Also, if everything was ok before, you probably overheated/dameaged something while you were working. Connect each part, one at a time, to the output jack. This will isolate the part from everything else and tell you if its broke.

Definitely grab a a multi-meter. Take your time. Check maybe one or two parts a day, there's no rush. You'll find the problem in a few days, save some scratch and strike another Duncan inspired blow against evil over-charging techs everywhere!

Good Luck!

also, make sure you're using a quality cord. I had a cheap cord (came with my Jay Turser pos), and I always figured my guitar buzzed cause of crappy wiring. got a good cord, problem solved.

Also, did you use shielded cable to run the long wire length from the switch to the control cavity? Longer wire runs are more prone to picking up noise, which is why you should use shielded cable.

Re: I'm pretty damn pissed off... I simply cannot wire my guitar!!!!!!!!

Well a couple things helped me a lot. I went through a lot of pain figuring out how to wire my guitar but ultimately the following helped A LOT.

1.Make sure you pick 1 ground. the back of only 1 pot for me.
2.Make sure your guitar is shielded properly. My problems started when I took out the metal plate in the cavity. Little did I realize that was the technique Gibson uses to sheild their guitars. Once I shielded it myself with shielding paint and wired it again, the buzz finally went away.

People think that LPs are not supposed to buzz or hum- well they're not, if they either have their stock shielding or some shielding of your own.
