I'm wanting to sell a guitar - Need some advice

A while back I bought a Washburn X10 at a yard sale. It was cheap, but needed a some work. The owner said the bridge and the middle pickups do not work and the wire leads are cut about 1-2" from the pickups. The neck pickup works fine. It has a few minor body dings. Besides this, it is fine.

I originally planned to fix it up, but decided I would rather sell it on eBay and just get a little more money out of it then I payed.

I have no experience selling project guitars. Should I sell it as it is? Should I leave the pickups with it? Should I leave the wire leads in it? Would I be better of selling it by parts?

Thanks a lot.

I would describe the current condition to a "T". Pickups are easy to replace and to repair in your case. If the leads are short and the pups are worth a darn the buyer could fix that. I think as long as you are honest about the condition and if you take really detailed pics you'll be fine.

i would lengthen the pickup wires and get them all working properly so you can advertise it as a fully working guitar ... less than an hour under the hood and you'll get way more money out of it than if you sell it as busted like that ... then, i'd try to sell it locally (high school kid learning or something) ... save on ebay fees and shipping hassles

just my 2 cents

Even better idea.

I assumed you want to sell it "as-is". If you feel comfortable soldering new wires to lengthen the current one then do it. It will appeal to a larger audience as a working guitar just as T4D said!!!

Get it working and überdescribe it... or simply part it out...list on a new one is 249.90, working you´d maybe get 100$ for it, but in parts 150 isn´t totally unrealistic... ;)

Note: if it were something other than a Cheap import I´d not recommend parting it out, esp. if it were US made or from a manufacturer whose instruments in part already have collector value...
