go to proguitarshop.com. The demos really go through all the features and the guy explains them well in between playing and you can read the features as you listen. It's a well organized site. He covers maybe 30 phasers and it's a good way to compare.

watch him do undulant detuned, vibe stuff on the HBE, then twist a knob and flip a switch and absolutely nail Alice in Chains "Rooster" a few seconds later.

man I hate to seem persistent or salesman-ish

but I've been having a phaser shootout in the past few days and I gotta tell ya

I keep coming back to the HBE Psilocybe. It really leaves a sound in your head that's addictive; you want to keep using the pedal and hearing what it does to your sound while playing. It is an inspiration tool.

It does so many phaser sounds well, but is much more than just a phaser; it does lots of modulation well. Affordable ($140 new), more versatile than most phasers, clean, sparkly or dark, symmetrical or wobbly, thin quasar vibra-trems or thick and chewy swooshes with soothing zzzhhh consonants at extreme settings. It has that rare ability to be transparent with distortion (or over the top, but still sound good and "together") or as dramatic, deep and lush with cleans as you want, it's that flexible. The pleasing sound of a strong but slow sweep on this unit rivals the Moog's in dreaminess. It's something you can just leave on, and it's easy to adjust while playing even with shoes on. Every phaser enthusiast should get one.
