In need of home recording software

atm i'm wanting to do some halfway good sounding home recordings to get out some ideas and such. I want to do it on my own and therefore i need something to do drum and bass tracks and maybe some occasional keys and more orchestral stuff. I need programs that can give out something that won't sound plasticy or artifical and be not to complicated. For mixing and recording vocals and guitars i have adobe audition but i guess there are better. So just give me some recommendations on what to use to get something togehter that can actually sound like a band.

How powerful is your PC, and how much are you planning to spend?

Re: In need of home recording software

Y'know, I've been using nuendo for a while now and I STILL come back to audition continuously for vocal production. I think the main problems with that program come in the form of file management which it does terribly- but it's infinitely easier to work with individual files. I use the two in conjunction with one another as nuendo/cubase has wonderful midi functionality and the easiest drum interface I've encountered. Takes a fast computer though- I run short on ram all the time.

Man, I'm on a continous battle with RAM. I'm finally settling it this summer - upgrading to a laptop with 2 gigs.

Re: In need of home recording software

Yeah I'm gonna have to upgrade sometime soon as well. I've got 4 tracks left to dust off that hip hop mixtape I'm producing and then about 6 months before he wants me to do an entire album of original music with him. That implies beat programming which will KILL my system ram wise if I don't upgrade. Doesn't help that I'm down to my last 10 gigs of harddrive space either :(
