In need of urgent help! Please verify that this American Vintage 62 strat is real!

Re: In need of urgent help! Please verify that this American Vintage 62 strat is real

Not real. Look at the decal. The con artists forgot to get the edge done right.
Its a MIM Std. with a fake decal.

And you are absolutely sure about this? Damn, but I kinda expected it to be a fake, they usually cost about twice that in Sweden

ive learned that you need to be absolutely certain about stuff, or youll get burned more often than not.. No, Im not absolutely certain. Good luck.

That is NOT a MIM standard and I am sure of that however w/o better pics I can't tell you much more than that...

Ok, thanks!

I'll let a few more people have their say and see how it goes. I won't buy it unless I am fairly sure. If it was a Mexican one i would lose about 2-300 bucks if I sold it, so it wouldn't be the end of the world if I only was like 97% sure and potentially could make a $6-700 profit.:scratchch

Seems legit from what I can see.

It would be good to know whether it has a skunk stripe on the back of the neck. A AVRI 62 wouldn't, a MIM Standard would.

You can also ask the seller whether the Trem block is magnetic.

Re: In need of urgent help! Please verify that this American Vintage 62 strat is real

Should it be magnetic or not?

Yes, it should have a steel block (magnetic), whereas a MIM has a Zinc block (not magnetic).

This can't be a MIM Standard since it has vintage style tuners, if anything a 60ties MIM is a contender. Not sure whether they ever made them in ice blue, but ice blue is a common color for AVRI.

How can I tell a MIM reissue from an American one?

There is nothing wrong with that. Looks like a AVRI to me for sure.

Don't listen to that decal garbage talk. The Fender decals look like this in certain light and they don't all look the same.

The only disconcerting thing is the dirt/pitting on the bridge. This might have been stored in the open for a while.

Re: In need of urgent help! Please verify that this American Vintage 62 strat is real

That looks legit to me, I don't see anything suspect about the decal.

Re: In need of urgent help! Please verify that this American Vintage 62 strat is real

Definitely looks like a legit AVRI 62 to me. As for the "crappy" decal line, there are plenty of actual pre-CBS Fenders with visible decal lines, so in terms of being an accurate reissue this is a success :)

General rule of thumb: ignore everything MetalManiac says about anything.
