In search of a single...

Greetings friends. I haven't been around much lately as my world has taken me away from forums in general, but I have a question and am looking for some advice.

I have a guitar, a 1987/89 Ibanez Mutt of a 540P "Power" model that is quickly becoming my go-to to all kinds of tings. I primarily play Hard Rock/Old School Metal styles in E or Eb Standard.

I've had a number of different pickups in this guitar and what has finally seemed to gel with me in it is my BroBucker Trembucker in the bridge. I also just yesterday put my StraBro90 middle model into the neck. It sounds great there. The middle I have in there now is still the stock stacked thing made by DiMarzio. It sounds OK, but it's weak compared to both of the others, and I like all positions to be about the same volume.

So I'm looking for suggestions for a middle pickup. Doesn't need to be hum cancelling as I would only really use it for cleans. Guitar has an alder body, maple neck with rosewood fretboard and the guitar has an Edge Tremolo (Floyd Style for those that don't know). Aesthetically I would prefer flat poles and something with a cover so I can get a cream cover for it to match.

I look forward to your suggestions! Thanks!

Trevor

Welcome back!

I have to ask for some clarity..is it more important that the volume difference isn't too great, or are you looking for a specific tone? It sounds like balance is more important. An SSL-6 or Quarter Pound would do it.

Re: In search of a single...

Tone is always a consideration. I have had great luck with every Duncan single I ave tried, so for this situation, I know what to expect from the SSL-* singles, especially in an alder body. I have actually decided on the SSL-6 and have placed my order for one. I'll report back once it's installed.

I'd say STK-S7 Shop Floor Custom for a flat stagger would work pretty well in that set.

QuarterPound Strat in middle position plays very well with humbuckers.
Loud enough to hold its own balancewise yet still distinctively singlecoily in its attack.
Fat enough for great lead tones, cleans up nicely enough to sound Stratlike when you roll it back.

I love the QP; have had one in a Floydcaster for decades- used to be my main gig guitar back in the 80s when I played in cover bands.

EDIT: didn't realize you'd already made your choice, Pinto. Sounds like the SSL6 should work great for you.
