In the Workshop: Saving a '75 Stratocaster

Re: In the Workshop: Saving a '75 Stratocaster

I scalloped one of my first guitars (in the '80's, didn't we all?) and once was enough.

I tweaked it up this morning and so far so good.

I forgot to add that the finished guitar weighs in at 7.9 pounds.

I've never seen a '70's Strat look so good!

What are you gonna do with it?

Assimilation to the collective of course. :D

I tweaked it up a bit tonight and I am digging more. I may need to swap out the original pots and cap.

My question didn't get answered. I might have switched over to tin foil who knows.

If I had one of those machines that do it I would but hand doing 24frets is a nightmare

Re: In the Workshop: Saving a '75 Stratocaster

Some final tweakings on the strat.

Once everything was complete I had a rather large gap in the neck pocket. Everything went back into the original holes so either I just missed it or the original finish was much thicker here than I thought, but I couldn't just leave it.

Refinishing the body was out so any adjustment would have to be at the neck.

It does not really matter- but I wonder if the neck would still interchange with another Strat body? If it didn't I suppose one could plug & ream out the holes in the body slightly. Regardless sounds like you saved the guitar/neck so no complaints.

Mid to late Fenders were so notoriously sloppy who knows. I have always said the three things to really look out for on ‘70’s Fenders were sound, weight and neck fit.

Am I the only one who thinks the grain pattern /color shifting was too cool to paint over opaque?

Other than that, you really are a master man, every project more awe-inducing than the last (not to mention GAS-producing :D)

Man, this is a hell of a repair! You did a great job. Those are some fine looking frets too! How much would you charge for a fretjob?

Thanks but I barely have time for my own stuff.
