ya i bought a '59 pick up from guitar center the other day and tried to put it in my ibanez but 4 some reason i dont think it will work. so i have a quick question. does a rg 220 have 2 conductors or four and will the 59 sound ok with it. oh ya some one told me that if my ibanez has 4 conductors the 59 is available for special order in 4 conductors. is this true? picture of my guitar below V

thanx a bunch

Re: inbanez with a '59?

Get the schematic from the seymour duncan main website. Your guitar is probably HH or HSH or SSH? Can't be difficult. Just take out the pickup you have in it now and soder in the new one.

Re: inbanez with a '59?

I think this experiment is going to have a bad end......

The '59 will likely sound too thin, and too bright in that guitar/trem setup.

If you block the trem, you stand a chance. But not much.....

Re: inbanez with a '59?

i agree with majestic, ibanez guitars need a fat boost from an alnico II to stand a chance against the big boys tonewise

Re: inbanez with a '59?

HH means 2 humbuckers, as shown in the picture. HSH means 2 humbuckers with a single coil pickup in the middle. SSH means 2 single coils and a humbucker in the bridge. If your guitar is the exact same as the one in the pic, yours is HH.

I don't see a reason why the '59 wouldn't work in your guitar. I have a '59 neck and a Custom 5 bridge in my Ibanez (in my sig to the left). You may run into the problem of the '59 not fitting in the pickup ring. Most Ibanez are fit for foreign pickups, like dimarzios. They are smaller than USA pickups, like Seymour Duncans. It should still work tho. Does your guitar have push/pull pots for coil splitting? If it doesn't, your guitar uses 2 conductor pickups, and the '59 you have is fine. Just look at your guitar, then rewire it up the same way as it was before. Why is it you think it won't work? If you run into a problem, just ask on here. Stick around here for a little while and you'll learn a lot.

Re: inbanez with a '59?

ummm well that picture of the guitar was the same exact one as mine (same color 2) so out of the hole in the wood where the wires come from the pick ups i have three wires coming out. 1 black one red and 1 green. i wanted to replace the bridge pick cuase right now its sounds to muddy. so i wanted something with good cleans and thick distortion for mostly hard rock (not metal um band like bad religion) so i was wondering does the bridge pick up have only 1 black wire coming out cause thats how the '59 was

thanx.

Re: inbanez with a '59?

Your guitar looks like an artist though... mahogany body, maple cap, and a mahogany neck? RG would be maple neck and basswood body or something, much thinner sounding.

You didn't put the effort into writting a clear post so I'm not going to put the effort into decoding it. I will say this though: Try 500k pots from a good company to cure muddiness.

Re: inbanez with a '59?

i'd avise against putting the '59 in the RG220 bridge position- thusfar, i don't hear good tones from peers who have this humbucker in that position. the neck '59 is another story. it sings (depends on the guitar, really).

Re: inbanez with a '59?

i was planing on putting the 59 in the bridge position. just need to know out of the 3 wires red, green and black does "A" bridge pick up usaully have only a black wire coming out?

It depends on the pickup

Take it to a tech or do some more learning on your own. Your not equipped to handle this right now. There are a couple of books by Dan Erlwine available that are quite detailed in the specifics you need.

Re: inbanez with a '59?

...no joke.....I thought he said 'RG', which is a very thin sounding guitar.

That guitar in the picture doesn't look like it has a floating Floyd, but I'm not sure.

I guess a '59 would be fine, then.
