Inbound: a white Telecaster

Love my strat and Jazzmaster but they are not telecasters, I play clean or cleanish these days and those guitars have their sound and their quirks. So I narrowed it down to two in my price range, either Classic Vibe because of bang for buck, or Player Series as they have alnico pickups now and when you get a good MIM specimen they are great and feel more solid to me. I wanted a white tele and they both come in white, I used to have a white one and miss it. I don't really like butterscotch though I know its classic.

The Classic Vibe has alnico pickups and vintage tuners but their gloss poly is really plastic feeling, and the ashtray bridge has three saddles which I like but the bridge lip that gets in the way. CV Quality is usually good I hear, but I've owned a few MIM and like the quality generally. I was looking for the white one with A3 pickups, I've played several of the butterscotch ones and the pickups on those are decent. Neck feels a little small in my hands perhaps. Pine body. I've heard these can be soft and have the screws strip a little, easy fix but kinda a pet peeve.
On the other side the Player Series now has ok pickups, more modern sounding than the CV but nothing like the old ceramics. They did satin neck back and gloss front which I like. MIM satin neck backs feel really good to my hands but gloss feels and looks right on the front, and they don't "vintage tint" it orange like Squier. The tuners are not the vintage kind but they're good anyways. The nut width on the Fender is a little wider which I like. The bridge is now stamped steel saddles instead of blocks, on the flat plate. The flat bridge is good for my hand placement, I like not having to change anything. Quality of MIM is hit or miss but I wouldn't buy without some way to return it. They're more expensive. But they also come with a nice bag lol. The cosmetic changes like spaghetti logo and f stamp neck plate are welcomed too. Finally I feel like fender's not trying so hard to punish those who don't have MIA kind of money and guilt trip you into laying out twice the cash.

Anyways I made my choice and purchased online (theres so few teles around here, why?! no one plays teles in utah??), I will try one of them first and if not impressed will send it back for the other one. But I'm interested in which one you guys would like better for discussion's sake. I know CV are pretty popular and people have had some bad MIM experiences. My MIM experiences have been good so far.

Re: Inbound: a white Telecaster

I like the Player Series, although I'm not sure about the stamped saddles. I recently saw a Fender at a local shop with those, and I'd be curious if there will be a noticeable tonal difference between stamped and the blocks, or am I splitting hairs?

As far as MIM goes, I own a Roadworn, great quality, as have been the handful of other MIMs I've picked up.

Re: Inbound: a white Telecaster

I'll be that guy and ask, what about a G&L Tele?

Those have a flatter radius which I like, frets are a bit taller, the pickups are IMO excellent from factory and pricing is similar to a MIM, but I actually prefer them to Fenders and I own a Fender Tele!

You should definitely check them out.

Re: Inbound: a white Telecaster

And I dunno I sure have never a/b tested the saddles but they seem to work well on strats.

Re: Inbound: a white Telecaster

MIM would be my #1 go to...CVs are finely built but dunno why, they just don't have that good ol' Fender feel...it's like dinner...rather have 3 tacos, rice and beans or some chow mien and a box of white rice...kinda like that...
but while we're talkin Teles....gettin a hankering for a thinline...any opinions on this kinda guitar....can that little open space inside really do anything???

Re: Inbound: a white Telecaster

One of the two guitars (I think you all might have guessed which one I went for first) is on truck for delivery, so anxious. Couldn't get out of work today so I'll have to make my "return or keep" assessment after. Wish me luck, please!

Re: Inbound: a white Telecaster

Good luck. :)

Just scored my own MIM Fender Tele recently, so I can appreciate the anticipation.

Re: Inbound: a white Telecaster

I tried both and went with the Player Series. I liked the neck MUCH better on the Player series and I couldn't say no to the Tidepool color with the maple neck. Pics in the NGD thread I put up.
