Love my strat and Jazzmaster but they are not telecasters, I play clean or cleanish these days and those guitars have their sound and their quirks. So I narrowed it down to two in my price range, either Classic Vibe because of bang for buck, or Player Series as they have alnico pickups now and when you get a good MIM specimen they are great and feel more solid to me. I wanted a white tele and they both come in white, I used to have a white one and miss it. I don't really like butterscotch though I know its classic.
The Classic Vibe has alnico pickups and vintage tuners but their gloss poly is really plastic feeling, and the ashtray bridge has three saddles which I like but the bridge lip that gets in the way. CV Quality is usually good I hear, but I've owned a few MIM and like the quality generally. I was looking for the white one with A3 pickups, I've played several of the butterscotch ones and the pickups on those are decent. Neck feels a little small in my hands perhaps. Pine body. I've heard these can be soft and have the screws strip a little, easy fix but kinda a pet peeve.
On the other side the Player Series now has ok pickups, more modern sounding than the CV but nothing like the old ceramics. They did satin neck back and gloss front which I like. MIM satin neck backs feel really good to my hands but gloss feels and looks right on the front, and they don't "vintage tint" it orange like Squier. The tuners are not the vintage kind but they're good anyways. The nut width on the Fender is a little wider which I like. The bridge is now stamped steel saddles instead of blocks, on the flat plate. The flat bridge is good for my hand placement, I like not having to change anything. Quality of MIM is hit or miss but I wouldn't buy without some way to return it. They're more expensive. But they also come with a nice bag lol. The cosmetic changes like spaghetti logo and f stamp neck plate are welcomed too. Finally I feel like fender's not trying so hard to punish those who don't have MIA kind of money and guilt trip you into laying out twice the cash.
Anyways I made my choice and purchased online (theres so few teles around here, why?! no one plays teles in utah??), I will try one of them first and if not impressed will send it back for the other one. But I'm interested in which one you guys would like better for discussion's sake. I know CV are pretty popular and people have had some bad MIM experiences. My MIM experiences have been good so far.
