Incense affect on Guitars?

I burn incense in my bedroom where I keep my guitars and amp. I know cigarette smoke can have affects on some gear, but what about incense?

BTW, once when I took my amp out of my room to go play with my band my drummer was behind my amp as it was warming up and he smelt incense. I'm sure it had something to do with the tubes heating up. Anyone else have this happen?

I smoke around all my gear and other than turning binding a cool creamy color quicker than normal, I've had no problems. I would think that incense wouldn't do anything other than make it smell............


I've heard that smoke is bad for equiptment, but hey, how smokey are bars that gear gets played in all the time and is still working years and years later?

I haven't burnt incense in a long time, but IIRC, the smoke settles on certain surfaces and leaves a residue, much like a lot of candles do. That's why your amp heats up and smells like sandlewood or whatever.

Any residue or dust that builds up over a period of time will be death to electronics. It insulates things and they overheat. I'd imagine that will take a long time with incense, though. I guess it depends on how much you burn...incense, I mean. :cool2:

The 6 golden rules re guitars and equipment are:

1. No incence.
2. No smoking.
3. No Alcohol.
4. No Pets.
5. No sex.
6. No unnecessary handling of equipment such as playing.

I personally have followed these 6 simple golden rules for the past twenty years and can testify to their efficency. :eyecrazy:

I burn incense around my gear a good bit, usually when me and someone are writing. The incense help get rid of the bad vibes and help with the creativity:friday:

I am mortified by the very suggestion of such lewd behavior !
I take the protection of my equipment very seriously, unlike some others.

I do not allow smoking, alcohol, pets, incence and especially sex within a 100 yard distance of my equipment as a general rule.

Are you sure that your equipment is free of STD's etc ?

The one time that I did make a small indiscression was only because I was drunk and the three young ladies were most insistent that I was a rock stud God and that I was everything they had ever wanted.

HA! busted! actually though, i never smoke anything in my room. I just use the incense cuz it makes my room smell good. I live in a house with 4 other guys in college. so, most of the house is free reign to smoke huka or sometimes ghanga, but never cigarettes.

I never found incense to smell good. Always seeps into everything and makes it smell like a stale headshop. My Traynor YCV80 came to me used from guitar center smelling that way for 2 years.

I doubt its dangerous for the gear besides making it smell like Haight-Ashbury.

I imagine playing the hell out of it and loading it in and out of vans, venues and rehearsal spaces is much worse for gear than incense.

Yup. That, and the fact that just one spilled beer is way worse for an amp than a ton of incense.

sorry, a Hukah is a "fancy apparatus" for smoking a flavored tobacco product called sheesha (sp?), that's what they're designed to do, not smoke marijuana. And if you smoke ghanga in a hukah you risk tainting the hookah.

I use scented candles at home, and I've never had any problems with my gear. Sometimes I keep candles on top of my speaker cab or right next to it.
