Was able to snag a [supposedly] mint used copy of one of these babies (which I have been lusting after since they were announced) for what I consider a very fair price.
Sparkling Burgundy Metallic '60s-style SG Special. It's an unheard of reissue color to me; this may actually be the only time they have reissued it. It was kind of like Gibson's closest equivalent to Candy Apple Red for just a couple of years back in the late '60's. It was a three-stage color, but the red dye of the translucent color coats was very unstable, so many, if not most, have faded to orange or copper metallic. I happen to have a '68 ES-330 in this color, so that makes the SG all that much more special to me. As far as I know, the color was used on ES-330s and ES-335s. I have never seen it on another model.
Any Special or Junior with a wraparound always piques my interest; the color just sent this one over the top for me.
The only changes I plan are a replacement of the stock nut with a scratch-made bone nut, and the replacement of the rear cavity cover with a "correct" smooth plastic one, instead of the weird pebbled one it comes with.
