If anyone is looking for a Jet City JCA22H, Guitar Center has them on sale for $279 with free shipping. Mine should be here late this week or early next week; pictures and a brief review to follow.

Re: Incoming NAD and PSA

I got the combo version of this a year ago. Great amp! Very marshally on the crunch channel, and almost too much gain on the overdrive. Defiantly a fun great amp. Very Loud though, much louder than my buddies 60w hybrid fender for sure!

Kinda wish i got the head though, its a tad heavy as one unit. :)

Re: Incoming NAD and PSA

Nice! I'm supposedly getting a $200.00 bonus on my check next week. If they're still on sale then, I may pull the trigger on one.

Re: Incoming NAD and PSA

Arrived yesterday, but haven't had a chance to fire it up yet. Hopefully better luck after work today.

Re: Incoming NAD and PSA

This thing is a BEAST. I've played most of the Soldano range and I used to own a SP-77, so I knew what to expect but wow. Mini Rectos sound big for EL-84 amps, but this thing is even thicker in the lows & low mids. It also has a metric buttload of gain; my P-Rails in parallel with the gain on 6 (about 2 o'clock) was more than plenty. I didn't have a ton of play time tonight, but this thing definitely delivers on what I was expecting. The only downside I've found so far is that it doesn't clean up very well with the volume knob. The tubes are all Chinese OEM mystery tubes, so I'm expecting some improvement and maybe a bit less gain when I swap the 12AX7s. I'm intending to leave the power tubes stock as the tone is roughly 80% preamp per Bill @ Soldano.

After playing the Jet City tonight I can confidently say that my Mini Recto GAS is completely dead. I'm stilling GASing for a Mini Jube due to the improved touch sensitivity and because that's been my sound for the last 15 years.

Do these JCA's really have that much gain? I had 1 of the original 20 watter heads and it got gritty and that was it..very loud though and I never tried pedals before I sold it.

Mine is, but i do use a JB in the bridge

The Crunch channel does 90% of what i do, i really only use OD for higher gain metal. OD gain doesn't go past 5 though, as it just gets too much

Love it though.

Gonna put a 5751 tube in the OD channels slot. Gotta look up which slots effect the OD channel but not the crunch channel.

The single channel 20-watter has only the lower gain "crunch" channel present here. I haven't actually played through that channel yet since you need the foot switch to activate it, but I have played both the Soldano Decatone and Hot Rod series which this is based on, and those crunch channels have maybe a JCM800 level of gain. The lead channel of the JCA22 has a sick amount of gain; it also has a very aggressive voicing. Compared to the other Soldano amps, I think it's maybe a little closer to an Avenger than a Hot Rod.

Re: Incoming NAD and PSA

I don't need this amp at all, but you're giving me serious GAS.

I wouldn't pay the $429 full price for it, but it's an absolute steal at $279. The only downsides I can think of are that the "crunch" channel has very limited headroom if you want to use it for clean-ish sounds, and the stock preamp tubes kinda suck. I haven't had a chance to swap them yet, but I'm hopeful that'll improve touch sensitivity and clarity a bit.

Re: Incoming NAD and PSA

Swapped the 12AX7s for EHX in V1-V4 and threw a Sovtek in the PI. I was a bit surprised that gain wasn't reduced much if at all, though clarity and touch sensitivity both improved. Generally I still prefer my Jube, but this thing is a really cool toy.
