Incoming New Cabinet Day!

As some of you might have spotted in another thread, I've been offered to trade my trusty old Roland Cube 60 for a great cabinet. And it's happening!

It's a custom built closed back 2x12 loaded with Celestions: a V30 and a K100.
From what I've gathered, a really aggressive combo that should suit me real good. V30s fill the mids while the K100 should bring lots of thump and some sizzle on top.

We're doing the trade this Saturday. The owner will come to my place and we'll test the **** out of everything.

I have to say I'm a bit nostalgic about dumping the Cube. It was my first serious amp, it aced through countless gigs, and I know some of the sounds are laughable and the onboard FX suck. But I like its cheesy sounds sometimes. Kinda like craving for a Big Mac or a QP.

But that's life, right? And nobody should eat McDonald's constantly. :)

Anyway. My Tweaker should kill through the new cab.
And if not, I might check that 50 watts Jet City head I tried once...
Also, it's a good moment to drop the Cube since it seems Boss will pull the plug on the series, replacing it with the Katana amps.

I'll upload some pictures of the upcoming cab tomorrow!

Love the Cube series. That being said, the cab you're getting sounds like something I'd like. The Tweaker should kill.
Post some clips if you can, I'd love to hear it.

Well, here, the Cube isn't worth that much much. A custom cab. isn't worth very much either unless it is a name brand, so figure you are trading for the speakers.Speakers are a HUGE unknown..lots of people try and dump 'em cause they have issues of a bad voice coil, so make sure you play it at volume, it doesn't buzz/ rattle and don't be too hyped to walk away from the deal.IMHO. You probably know all this.Hoping it works out !

Absolutely Sir. It's getting tested the way it's meant to be played.
The guy who bought it went from an Orange head to an AC30 now so he has no use for the cab.
I have no trouble walking away if anything turns out a bit weird.

And if anything, he's a cool cat. He noticed I was looking for a Jackson Kelly case/gigbag in a different trade post and he threw an old Kelly gigbag he had around into the trade as well, and I didn't even ask for it. How cool is that?

Anyway, I'll be recording some clips for sure!

Aaaand here it is!!

Closed back 2x12
Celestion Vintage 30 / Celestion G12K-100 combo.
16 ohms.

Well... the difference in sound is pretty astounding. It's so good that I took the EQ pedal off the loop, which used to be constantly on as a tone shaper.
Not necessary anymore. The crunch is phenomenal with this thing now! It sounds a bit darker and way meatier than the Emi Wizard loaded 1x12 cab I had before.
It's crazy on the mids though. Very mid heavy. But it's not annoying, I just find it strange having the EQ at 7/2/7 and still having plenty of midrange. :D

Not gonna miss my poor Cube 60 one bit I think!

A good cabinet makes a world of difference! I fully support that speaker combination. I use the V30/K100 in a 4X12 and love the tones. Most use the V30/T75, but this combo brings the thump and keeps the aggression, in my opinion. Good grab!

Is it weird the first thing I thought of in that picture was "Man, my fiance would love those stairs" ....

Nice looking cab, great speaker choice.

Haha! I live in a tiny loft so the open stairs/2nd floor do look stylish. And girls dig it. :)

The cab is terrific! It has a great sizzle on top that doesn't make the tone thin or fatiguing.
The Tweaker's main drawback is the bass response which isn't that good even for 15 watts, but the cabinet does A LOT of heavy lifting here and I don't crank the bass anymore. And it sits just right.

Good stuff!
