Info about late '90s Gibson "The Paul?"

Re: Info about late '90s Gibson "The Paul?"

I had a 59.

It was an improvement on the mud situation but not enough for me.... I always prefer low output pickups.

(had a DD that did the opposite...)

Re: Info about late '90s Gibson "The Paul?"

Spent a good hour with it today. Couldn't think of anything I didn't like about it, and haven't enjoyed playing a guitar that much in a long time.

Put the deposit down. Now I've got 30 days to sell enough other stuff to pay off the rest!

Thanks for the info and opinions, guys.

Don't want to beat a dead horse too much - but here's some information about this model Gibson that my Trusty Gibson/Fender Obscure But Cool Trivia Buddy dug up for me. I hope to bring this guitar home in a couple of weeks.

"it's a "The Paul II" !

slight variation on The Paul

its a stripped down les paul special, 498T/490R, Nitro finish, Klusons, no binding, complicated inlays, or any of that other **** you unecessarily pay thousands of dollars more for on any other LP... the body is SG width. It has a lighter mahogany body and it's smaller (a little more than 3/4 of a normal paul I think).

I always wanted a special for $400 just so I could have a 490/498 pickuped Gibson, better than the ceramics that originally came on my lp classic, not as hot but cleaner and smoother, just trim the tone on the 490 (neck pu) cuz it's a bit bright."

Cheers
