I don't know about the sound clips, but if you send an email to them and ask for a owners manual. They will email you a copy. Plus, they are very responsive. If you are looking for VHT, I would go with either a Ultra Lead or a Hundred/CLX depending on which tubes you like. I personally prefer the Ultra Lead.

Re: Info On Vht Amps

Good choice Burkweiser, I was going to recommend the same thing... VHT Ultralead all the way :headbang: (definitely one of the finest high gain amps around)

Re: Info On Vht Amps

Hails Bro,
If you're really interested in these amps, keep in mind the more Death Metal gain you want the more cash you'll be needing, they're far more expensive than the 5150 you were looking to buy. They're extremely tight and articulate amps, the Ultra Lead has an incredible low end which make your palm mutes shake the floor. They also respond to the more attack in your picking. They are incredibly expensive though, I saw an Ultralead for about the price the Powerball I ordered was going for. The CL50/100 can achieve Death Metal gain, but they're not really meant for that department

Re: Info On Vht Amps

Yeah the Pitbull CL50 and 100 are awesome, but they're actually the amps I was describing of being able to do Death Metal, but not being meant to do Death Metal. They handle the fat harmonically rich modern Rock/Metal and even the post-Classic Rock tone very well, but Death Metal, well let's just say you'd be better off with the UL.

Re: Info On Vht Amps

The Dragon is totally unsuited for Death Metal, instead of a tight focussed low end for fast palm muting, it's very open and sometimes even flat on the low end side. This is mainly because it's a vintage-oriented amp. The Cobra however makes up for all of that, and basically sinds like a cramped up Dual Recto without the muddyness and without all of the lacking parts of that amp. I was actually considering a Cobra, but I couldn't afford it since every store seemed to have raised prices on those amps. It's a tiny bit less ballsy than a Powerball but just as versatile gainwise, and very harmonically rich.

I gave the clips on Rocksolidamps to two people who've played the Dragon of a friend of theirs and couldn't believe the sound he got out of it. They claimed it certainly didn't find that sound in the amp, I don't know if it's because of them or because he knows the best Metal settings. The ENGL clips, especially the Powerball seems really accurate though!

Re: Info On Vht Amps

I had a chance to try a VHT UL100 head through a Mesa 412 cabinet. The guitar that I plugged in was PRS with a duncan JB in the bridge.

I was very dissapointed with the VHT UL100. I am not sure if it was a defected/bad amp but the Noise level on that amp on the gain channel is too extreme. There is soo much hum, even on the crunch channel with the gain set 1/2 way its even noticable when you play. The tone was very bad too. It was very buzzy with a very fizzy top end and had this harsh tone to it.

again, not sure if it was a defected amp, but thats what I heard when I tried that head. I have a feeling that the v30s in the Mesa cab played a big part of making that amp suck. I definitly want to give it another try through a different cab.

I mean, you hear so many great things about VHT UL and CL, so I still havent given up hope completely.

Re: Info On Vht Amps

IME, thats exactly the sound you'll get with V30 speakers. Farty buzzy stuff.

The few VHTs i've played were extremely smooth and not noisy at all (well..you know what I mean ;) )

Thank´s Brother.

V30's are the absolute wrong speaker for that amp. The Eminence models they ship in their cabs are smokin' with them. My buddy plays the Ultra and he has no more noise than any other amps.

Re: Info On Vht Amps

In my "lowly" opinion, I really liked the VHT CL50..... did everything I could want....

Re: Info On Vht Amps

More like an extremely tight and focused noiseless 5150, with an incredible clean channel. Actually every amp mentioned in this thread is really expensive JP, I wouldn't look further than the 5150 unless you win the lottery or something cuz it won't be pretty with 60% extra taxes on a foreign item :smack:
