I opened one up for some routine cleaning and this is what the circuit looks like, some of you pros can chime in on its simplicity or complexity. Just for fun really.

Re: Inside a Marshall Master Lead 30

not much to it, huh. what's with the little spiny thingies - heat sinks?

Re: Inside a Marshall Master Lead 30

Howdy,
I have found that any really decent but fairly simple pedalboard, a decent guitar, and a good grasp of what you want to hear, along with a journeyman's chops, you can make almost any rig work for me.
Specifically, I use a pedal to get a little grit-on all the time, with a boost/gain pedal for a bigger better sound for solos. Also I like a TC or some other pedal for a taste of reverb. A little ambience is always a must for me. YMMV.
The only set back is a 10 watt amp onstage with a 100 watt drummer!

Is it possible to tube this thing?

"Tube" is not a verb. That's like showing someone a picture of a go-kart and asking, "Is it possible to car this thing?"

not without gutting and replacing most of the components

you could get a tube kit from Mojotone
and replace the pan and all

Re: Inside a Marshall Master Lead 30

A guy on TDPRI recently gutted a Lead 30 and built a 20-watt SLO clone in the chassis.

Re: Inside a Marshall Master Lead 30

Those old 80s SS Marshalls sound great.

The issue is usually the junk speakers. Run one through a proper cab/speaker and they do a 180.

I can imagine that, cause right now with its current speaker and gain cranked it has a jet city 20 watt combo kinda tone.
