Installation question

Just replaced the stock bridge pick up and a PRS SE 245 with an SH 11 custom custom. Bridge position sounds fantastic, Middle position with bridge and neck pick up sounds thin, and out of phase. When I roll the treble volume down, it thickens up between six and eight, and then gets progressively thinner and brings the volume of the neck pick up down to zero also. Do the green and bare wires need to be soldered with the black wire coming from the neck volume pot? I'm sure this is a simple solution, just wanted to get some advice before I proceed.

Either reverse magnet or the positions of green and black yes.

I thinking this isn't the sort of PRS that has the 5 way superswitch and you are not having red and white connected to other places.

Sorry--yes, to be clear, it's standard Les Paul wiring--2 HBs, 2 tone, 2 volume, & a 3 way switch.

Also, the pickup is a 'zebra' model, so I don't wanna 'flip' it--probably shouldn't.

I think he was suggesting to flip the magnet, not the pickup. I would just start with reversing black and green, and that should work.

The SD diagram for LP wiring states that the green & bare wires be tinned together and then soldered to the back of the bridge volume pot. There is a black wire from the neck volume that is oddly soldered to the side of the bridge volume. Should the green/bare wires be soldered together with this black wire? I simply connected them where the stock pickup's ground wire was connected. So, I get full HB in bridge, but thin, "out of phase" tone in middle pos.. When I roll the bridge volume down, it takes the neck volume down, also. I'm sure that it's a simple solution, just wanted some advice before I proceed.

The 2 pickup colour wire change places, the bare stays where it is soldered (permanent ground).

There are also wires in guitars that connect together all grounds, often soldered to the back of pots. These obviously should stay where they are. In replacing a pickup you only need to resolder where the original pickup came from.

As the the two volumes issue, this is in the middle position yes?? If so that is normal for almost every guitar. You can switch the setup around so that you can have the volumes independent but there is always a trade-off in the way the other controls interact with passive guitar wiring.

Thanks, all! Simply reversed the black and green wires. All is well--complete and normal function restored. SH-11 sounds phenomenal--fat, complex, great sustain, and cleans are gorgeous. Thanks for the advice.

I am happy it worked out! The Custom Custom remains one of my favorite pickups across many styles of guitars.
