I've read all the hype. 20+ dollars for a 12ax7 is a bit steep. Well,,,, I have to say, after doing MANY comparisons, they do sound pretty darn good! I did'nt like them in the clean side but on the dirty side I really like them. They had a very good defined sound. I could hear separate strings in chords and arpeggios sounded great! Not too muddy, they were a bit trebly at first but a little eq tweaking and it was gone. I put them in my Mesa 20/20 and my Marshall 9001 pre. So far, one of the better tubes available, for me anyway. I went head to head with JJs, EHs, Ruby(Shuguang) and some other GTs. These are what I had to compare them to.
Anyone come across anything that can compare to these without having to go down to the antique store?
PS, the Shuguang really impressed me also. It had a big sound that wasn't too harsh, a nice "metal" sound, to me.
