Installing pickup covers

I want to install a SH-1 neck pickup, and a SH-14 Seymour Duncan pickup on my Les Paul. I want to use covers so the guitar looks the same as if it had the stock pickups. Do I need to solder them on, or do they just fit over the pickups. Any feedback will be appreciated.

Re: Installing pickup covers

I would definitely recommended soldering them on because if they vibrate, they will squeel like crazy.

Hello dennisday and welcome to a fantastic forum.

The topic of installing and removing pickup covers has been discussed many times in the past. You might want to do a search ( top of the page..just above "thread tools").

You will also want to get covers that are gauranteed to fit SD pickups...not all of the covers available will fit (i.e., pole spacing)

Potting has also been outlined frequently...if you wanted to try it.

Also, Bada Bing! (and many other forumbros) have businesses with great deals for forumites if you need parts, etc.

Good luck with installing the covers.

Personally, I like covers. However, many threads have "concluded" (to some extent) that pickups sound "better" without covers. BTW, I'm not trying to change your mind here.
