P Rail pickup covers

That looks great! That deep red color is perfect. It's a bit offset like an ESP Viper, yes? Is it 24 frets or just 22 shifted to get rid of the usual gap between the neck pickup and fretboard end?

One day I will invest in these new fangled machines. Drilling and Routing small thin parts has its limits.

The guitar has 22 frets and I remodeled the SG style a wee bit, based on a Viper if memory served. My 'SG' has a fairly long neck joint, and this was just made of scraps. I have made this model I think 7 times, and the last two have an almost ridiculous long neck joint. The neck ends even behind the neck pickup, and that 'lip' is covered by the pickguard. I was done with having an unstable SG-style guitar! I had these cover plates milled or lasered locally, I cannot remember to be honest.

Very cool! I've always wanted to do a similar thing with an SG. I started making a a body once but the wood hadn't been dried properly and the glue joint came apart!

Oh man, i know how that feels. I've had that in my early days. I had fretboards peel off one after the other. I don't know why. Once i started to use my pinstripes under the fretboard (maple/walnut/maple veneers), I had 0 issues. Perhaps it acts like mayo on a burger? Without mayo the entire thing slides apart, but with, it's cohesive.

I'm a ketchup person myself but I get your analogy:lmao: It's like a micro-plywood sandwich which lessens the impact of one piece wanting to shift.

maybe for plastic but how do you wanna vacuform metal around a pickup? I'm not seeing it.

I wasn't talking about metal (MY BAD), I meant a plastic cover (or ring) vacuformed to fit over a P-Rails. You'd need to make some tooling, get an oven to heat the plastic, and a vacuum pump.
