Re: Interested in a Gibson Les Paul Junior
FWIW, these have been two of my main guitars over the past 12–15 years (I am the original owner of both of them):
2001 Jr. and 2003 Les Paul Melody Maker (a budget version of a Jr.). They've both needed work to get them to be great playing guitars (mainly fret dressing, especially crowning and polishing), but they've always sounded great. They leave me wanting for nothing, and in need of nothing. If I play something else, it's just for the variety/fun of it, or to have the Fender feel and sound (e.g. my Esquire), or a vibrato (my Strats and Kahler-equipped guitars). I don't need that stuff; it's just fun sometimes. Most everything that really needs to get played, these can cover. If I had to choose one guitar to "go into battle" with, it would be one of these, or an Esquire with the Eldred wiring.
