Intonation and Analog Quartz tuners....

Hey bros.... Just wanted to ask all of you if any of you have had good results on setting intonation using an old basic quartz tuner (old style with the needle). I've had this old tuner for almost 10 years now and has served its purpose with no complaints whatsoever. Its the only one i have access to right now and have been trying to get the best intonation results that i can with it on my two MIM Teles. While I can seem to make it sound in tune for the most part in terms of intonation, it seems that in certain situations it still seems like its out in places, while in other situations it sounds dead on. Kinda frustrating sometimes!

I know most of you use strobe tuners that get total accuracy, but i can't justify dropping anything over $50 on a tuner. I also know that a big portion of you would just say "take it to a tech", but this is something i really wanna be able to do on my own, and be able to do it right. So, what are some cheaper, more accurate options for me to get this intonation thing done the right way without having to spend my life savings on an expensive strobe tuner, or some other space age tuning gadget??

Thanks a bunch....

Re: Intonation and Analog Quartz tuners....

s'always tricky ... the old saying 'use the right tools for the job' certainly applies ... but if you use that tuner and get results that your ears are happy with, then by definition it's good enough

good luck

T4D...thanks, for the most part i am happy with the results. i just feel like i need something a little more accurate sometimes to really fine tune it just right.

Know of any good digital or any other tuners that aren't really expensive that might be more accurate then this old one that i have?

Thanks!

So what tuners do you guys go to when it comes to getting your intonation just right? I've done all i can do with my old needle type...and i've got it pretty close now but i just need to do some "fine tuning" and this thing doesn't get that close!
