Introducing The Joe Bonamassa 1950 Broadcaster Pickup Set

These are a re-creation of the pickups in a very specific instrument.

That's not an answer. Broadcasters were made during a very short period of time. I doubt Leo was tinkering with pickups all that much. They should be pretty much be identical. If they aren't I would like to know what I've got if they are that different from what these are

Not all have the same number of turns. Back then, pickups were wound until it looked like the bobbin had enough wire on it. No counters. Some came out sounding different from others.

How is that not an answer? It is widely known that pickups then were very inconsistent. If there is a particular pickup that sounds better than others, then that is the one this is based on.

I came here to ask about the Broadcaster comparison too. I'd be interested in hearing someone do a side by side demo with the standard Broadcaster pickup vs the JB version.

Its not an answer because 1) it reads like corporate speak, toe'n the company line to warrant this new models existence when it is already in the line and 2) They were not that inconsistent and most importantly broadcasters were only around for a very short time before the nocasters came along. I am just not buying that Fender drastically altered them in such a short period of time or that the mfg process was THAT inconsistent. Good for Joe gettin' paid.

Whatever, I don't expect any further comment on it. Its not that important in the big picture.

i dont know what recipe they used for the duncan broadcaster pup, but the specs on this are different. im happy to have another vintage type tele option. especially the neck, i dont think duncan made one like that until now

I’m actually surprised how good that neck pickup sounds, especially considering it’s A2. I normally don’t like Tele neck pickups because they’re kinda bland, even with A5. This one sounds pretty lively though.

The difference is the standard line is averaging those models at the time using similar construction, vs all the Bonamassa pickups are adjusted and modified to get the specific sound of that one particular guitar Joe B has.

i assume its wound with 42 wire rather than 43 like most tele neck pup which is part of the difference

So my key take away is that SD now has A4 rod magnets? I had a idea rejected from CS because they didn't have A4 rods, and it would be nice to revisit it.

theyve had a4 rods for a while now, they used em in the brad paisley tele set too. id call em up, bet they can do it now. what are you after?

the limited editions of joes pups always seem to sell out quick. they have all been pretty sweet from my experience. i havent bought any, but i have well heeled friends who have, and the pups sound great

Which begs the question; If the pickups are that particular to THAT specific instrument - will they sound the same in your whatever caster. I doubt it.

Anyway - Kudos to Duncan for selling more Bonacrap.

That said, I have like 5 Pearly Gates floating around here...

A 5/2 set except A3s where the neck A2 poles are and an A4 where the bridge A5 poles are.

If I were a fan of a particular guitarist and someone cloned the pickup in the particular guitar that I really liked, I'd buy it.

In the demo, Joe B plays those pickups in a new Squier Affinity tele, if you'd ever watch before posting. :sword:
