Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

The Seymour Duncan Custom Shop has teamed up with blues-rock virtuoso Joe Bonamassa to produce the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set. This immaculately crafted and calibrated dual-humbucker set accurately replicates the P.A.F. pickups in Joe’s beloved 1959 sunburst Les Paul®. Their rich, dynamic, and nuanced voice will appeal to all tone connoisseurs who cherish the passion and power of the original humbucker.

Wound on the historic Leesona machine that created humbuckers for Gibson back in the ‘50s and ‘60s, the set features an Alnico 2 magnet in the neck pickup and Alnico 3 in the bridge. Period-correct butyrate bobbins, lightly antiqued nickel covers, wooden spacer, and retro-style “Bonamassa” P.A.F. stickers heighten the vintage vibe.

Awesome! He's a monster player and deserves this!

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

Just as I expected when he visited SD factory last year. Now we demand specs and demo!

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

Dope! These look killin'! Alnico III in the bridge sounds interesting. I'm guessing the mags aren't degaussed (or only a little bit).

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

Honestly, he sounds like he needed a set of Pearly Gates...

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

I believe Evan said they would be $350 at the Custom Shop. The video tells the story pretty well, Joe really wanted to recreate the original P.A.F's in his Les Paul and turned to Seymour to do so. He did a lot of testing and with back and forth refinements, we finally came to a pickup that Joe found was virtually indistinguishable and had the tonal characteristics that Joe associated with his beloved '59 Les Paul.

There are quite a few special features, including the signatures from Seymour and Joe, a special Bonamassa (P.A.F. style sticker) and a USB flash drive that will have several interviews, an interview about the SD convertible amplifier and some more yet to be determined goodies.

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

im sorry but 350 for a set of pickups is just ridiculous, i dont care how custom shop they are

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

^ True that dude. I'll paty $350 for a set, especially if its a close replication of Joe's 1959 pickups.

i agree with you buddy. but to some its the right way to go. i get tempted into other boutique and custom shops all the time but, i cant bring myself to it. that being said i have never tried them so i dont know what i am missing.

also i would like to add...... if i made more money i would not care to buy them at all.

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

180 for 1 pickup is a lot, but there's something calming about boutique/custom shop stuff. There was so much attention paid to the R&D, they seem to have nailed the tone Joe had in his head which says a lot about the fine tuning and details. I can't imagine these being BAD in any way shape or form.

I'd want to AB test it with a seth lover to hear the difference !

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

i think i would just save a bunch of money and get antiquities or seths.

Ha! A2 in the neck. Suck it!

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

Great player, great tone. I even liked his Strat tone. (Anybody remember that? No, I thought not.) But the only thing Joe hasn't commoditized into a signature product are his socks. Maybe those are next.

:joke:

I see a run on A3 magnets at addiction-fx, in the near future...
