Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

sounds like an awesome set of pups!

Great player, great tone. I even liked his Strat tone. (Anybody remember that? No, I thought not.) But the only thing Joe hasn't commoditized into a signature product are his socks. Maybe those are next.

:joke:

i remember him when he was kid joe and i was a teenager. lots of fenders back then.

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

I dont think $350 for a pair of Custom pickups is that much (I wouldnt pay it myself mind), but wouldnt a pickup from an old 1959 Les Paul sound like a....59?

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

PAF's were so inconsistent in the 50s, there are lots of "accurate" PAF clones that sound totally different from each other.

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

And I doubt many of them sounded exactly like a '59.

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

Ever priced any 50's PAF's?

If these sound the same they are easily worth $350.

I guess tone is just worth more money to some people.

But does that tone pay off? they extra money you spent on replicas then just some quality pafs will not be heard by the crowd, or anyone listening to your album. you may hear a slight difference, but if you arent content with some standard, high quality pafs like lollars, well, then you're listening with your eyes

Lollars...please...

Bottom line is I could be content with lots of different pickups but I spend the extra money on pickups that I think really sound great and maybe no one listening to me can hear the difference but I can and that makes me happy and when I am happy with my sound it pushed me to play better.

If you think they are too much money that's fine, no need to get upset about it.

I will buy and use the pickups I like and you are welcome to do the same.

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

They will sell out no question about it. I'd love to try a set, heck if you didn't like them I'm sure you could sell them and get your money back no problem.

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

Look, they put a lot of time and work into this set and I feel it is worth what they're asking. If they came as close to the sound of Joe's original PAFs as possible, then I say it's worth it. Joe is a very talented player and for what they're asking it's not bad at all. Think about the EVh Frankie pup, it was $400 for a single one with Eds handwriting. Look at what come with this set. I say it's worth it

Have you ever played through real high quality gear and just got a smile on your face and rocked out? You know it sounds great, so you just let yourself go? That's what's irreplaceable, not the metal and plastic and wood. That spark of inspiration only comes from a great tone.

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

its not a difference between high quality and low quality, its not like its this or gfs pups, its extra money that i dont feel is justified

I purchased Lollars and am not satisfied with them or of the service manager’s negative sales attitude.

I’ll never purchase Lollars again and do not recommend them either!

Having delt with Jason Lollar I can say he's a great guy and his custom service is great however I just don't like his pickups...I mean they are alright but for the prices no way. You're getting machine made pickups at handmade prices.

So....a 78 is 160 bucks.

2 CS Joes are 350.

That's 15 bucks more a pickup....or are you saying ALL SD CS pups are overpriced?

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

Plus, only 1,959 signed and numbered Custom Shop sets will be made. And then the run is over. Available end of February.

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

I can't even believe Evan has time to view this thread, much less contribute to it because of NAMM.

All can say is that I love great vintage spec pickups by Duncan, and have nothing to say but I want them. I love pickups that are rich in history, because I couldn't give a crap about the new active type stuff. I live in the designs that were invented years ago by the greats, then continued by guys like Seymour. Those ARE the best pickups. Seth Lover, Ted McCarty, Seymour Duncan, Bonamassa's vintage LP. The end.

are these potted tho ? Joe's favoured non potted pickups until now which is why i've avoided them.

Re: Introducing the Joe Bonamassa Signature Pickup Set

...as to the price, has anyone priced a pair of Throbaks lately? More than a few boutique pu makers asking the same price for just one pu.
