The Psyclone Series

Psyclone-Set-Nickel-700x493.jpg

Here is a whole host of Gretch-inspired pickups, brand new for 2018, the Psyclone.

Whether you’re country pickin’ like Chet or rocking out through stacks of amps like Malcolm you can count on the Seymour Duncan Psyclone set to deliver.

The Seymour Duncan Psyclone Vintage set recreates the distinctive sound of the original Filter’Tron pickups of the fifties and sixties. Due to tighter pole spacing, low DCR, and strong magnetism, the tone falls somewhere between a PAF style humbucker and a single-coil – warm, clear, snappy, and sweet, making it the perfect complement for country, jazz, and classic rock.

The neck pickup is designed to perfectly recreate the original Filter’Tron pickup spec from the fifties, while the bridge pickup is calibrated with a slightly hotter wind to balance output levels and create a fuller tone.

Originally designed in our Custom Shop, we took special care when sourcing materials to ensure the look and fit of the pickups are perfect – whether you’re restoring a vintage guitar, or dropping them in a modern classic.

The Psyclone Vintage pickup set is a drop in replacements for any guitar routed for Filter’Tron style pickups, and includes the correct hardware for either direct mount or pickup-ring mounting options.

Psyclone is hum cancelling and uses single conductor lead wire. Each Psyclone pickup is handmade in Santa Barbara, CA.

They can be found in Vintage and Hot versions. Available in separate bridge or neck models, or together as a set.

Re: Introducing the Psyclone!

Awesome, but I question the wisdom of pricing them above TV Jones.

Re: Introducing the Psyclone!

Nice! This is the first non artist signature pickup you've released in a while! I especially like how it says "SEYMOUR DUNCAN" and "MADE IN USA" on the front.

Re: Introducing the Psyclone!

very cool! curious why the vintage neck is the only a2 of the bunch

Re: Introducing the Psyclone!

Who designed these? Seymour?
I don't think Seymour has "designed" any p'ups since Kevin Beller joined the Co. with the task of... wait for it... designing pickups!

This is well-documented just by looking at the patents he holds.

Oops! That's an error on our webpage. All the Psyclone pickups use Alnico 5 magnets. I'll get that sorted, thanks!

Re: Introducing the Psyclone!

Are there any plans to sell the neck and bridge pickups as individuals? I'm thinking about getting a Vintage neck and Hot bridge.

Re: Introducing the Psyclone!

anybody know what surround rings to use with these? The Elecltromatic/Gretsch rings support a more rounded corner, the Psyclones are more squared off

Re: Introducing the Psyclone!

Well I think it is a funny issue with Filtertron shape pups. Some have rather square corners some have a rounded 1/4" radius I don't know enough about 'em to know what's up with that

But yeah the Psyclone is squared and I need to get this done fairly quickly.

I can mod the stock rings but that's a PITA

Re: Introducing the Psyclone!

Dropping a vintage neck pickup into a Tele with a 4-way switch could be killer!

Re: Introducing the Psyclone!

Maybe the rings come with the pickups? I am not sure. I haven't read a ton about these and haven't tried them. You may want to contact SD directly and ask that specific question, as they would be the only ones who might know this.
