invader/invader

Looking for opinions on the invader neck paired with the bridge.

It's meant for heavy sounds but how are the solo tones? Like how do single notes and fills on the higher registers mesh with big chords?

Whats the middle position like on an Invader/Invader? Or is that just more of the same thing?

there's also a neck version of the invader and i read good reviews. supposedly it works great paired with another one in the bridge. but i haven't tried it, so it's just a guess really.

At 7.72K resitance and 8 Khz Reasonant Peak the Invader neck has a lot less output than the bridge and a higher RP. I haven't actually tried one but I would think it would behave much like one of the more conservative SD neck pickups like maybe a Jazz (7.72K, 8 Mhz) but perhaps with less top end due to the allen head polepieces??

Ok I think i'm gonna try out this Invader/Invader combo, because the best thing about pickups is you can switch em out if you don't like em! If you can solder well, you can still sell em.
I'll drop the bridge invader in first, to make sure that if I cantmake the most of the sounds I get then I dont waste time matching my neck pickup to it.

The Invader neck is actually a pretty good pickup once you yank the capacitor out of it. They put it in there to roll off some top end which on paper sounds like a good idea given 7.2k + ceramic. But it actually sounds better without the cap to me.

I like my Invader in the bridge, and I was looking for suggestions for a neck p/u. I wired it series/parallel, and it sounds great combined with my Super Distortion in the neck. I want another 4 wire for the neck, and my jazz in my Ibanez has a little too much high end for my tastes...Maybe I'll go with another Invader too.

Anchang from the Sex Machineguns (Japanese hair metal band) uses the Invader in the neck and Full Shred in the bridge of his ESP. Sounds pretty good.

i'm all for j-rock.
I looked up anchang's ESPs and one site says it's a Screamin Demon in the bridge. Looks like one too, the pole pieces are different on each coil.
Interesting combo tho, it's a hard maple guitar with an ebony fretboard...Thatd be brighter toned than mine.

Is the sh-12 very high output? Whats it like with high gain?

Screamin demon is squarely low-medium output. It's not going to drive any amp at all.

With high gain it has a lot of shimmer and grind. Leads scream depending on your pick attack.

Maple isn't bright either, it's just in your face.

My all maple kramer is actually pretty dark, which is why the demon sounds good in there.

synyster gates from a7x uses the invader/invader combo...what i was gonna say is that IMO the invader bridge is at it's best in something that by nature has a lot of clarity and sparkle, like a strat...never heard one in an lp or somthin like that, but that dude, syn gates uses em in a mahogany axe, i think

I've had the Invader/Invader setup in two different guitars and liked it very much. Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold has also used this setup and I love all of his tones. so give it a try!

How do you remove the capacitor? Is it easy?

You have to remove the surround tape and carefully dig in to the "thicket" of lead wire and tape but it's in there, soldered to the baseplate. At least that's how the old ones were, don't know if they still make them that way or not.

Warranty schmarranty, if you want to make this pu perform full-out, you have to take this minor risk. As long as you don't drop it or poke the coil or pull really hard on one of the leads, it'll be fine.

yeah that sounds...iffy.

I'm not made of money by any means so if I don't like a pickup I'll exchange it before I mod it, most likely.

Dunno though, I'm gonna try the invader/invader combo and see if the neck pup is too dark.

yeah ive got to say synyster gate's sound is pretty much the peak of what an invader is in terms of lead tone. listen to his latest collaberation with good charlotte (the river) for his latest tone. gorgeous!!!! finally a metal player embracing his mid control

synyster gates said that his invaders kind of have a whiny tone....i know invader sound really thick and dark.....im wondering if his invaders have that capacitor mod thing....his tone doesnt really sound all that invaderish either IMO.....on his signature guitar they say custom invaders....hmmm does anyone have any input on this? his tone really isnt that thick as i would think an invader in a mahogany body would sound....it actually is whiney like he said so himself maybe hes using meg or 2 meg pots along with the mod?
