It has been done before. I heard from one guy that he put the screws of an Invader in a DiMarzio Evolution bridge pup and it made a big (positive) difference to the sound of that pickup. Would be an interesting experiment in a PAF type humbucker. Give it a try and let us know how it works.

I did a 59/Jazz hybrid bridge slug coils with the button hex poles to make a compliment to the Invader bridge. Works well and give it a little more gusto than the typical hybrid, or either the Jazz or 59 stock. I never tried an Invader neck so I'd be curious to see how this compares tone wise. Not muddy at all.

So you drilled it out? The only pups that will accept the Invader poles as-is are the Dimarzios with the fat allen poles. That's the Super D, Super 2, and Super 3, and the Evo neck and bridge. Don't the Invader poles just slip right though on the slug side? The slugs are a bit wider than the Invader pole diameter. At least on all the pups I've worked on.
I did the exact opposite, which was to put those Dimarzio poles in an Invader and I thought that really improved the sound of the Invader. Maybe Duncan should offer an "Invader Lite" with those poles, but it might just be too much like the Distortion.

One of the big reasons the Invader has its personality is becasue of its poles! The person that tried it in a EVO. said it took on some of the Invader personality.

Frankflabo, no the Invader poles fit into the slug coils no problem. There are no threads to speak of and if you take out an Invader pole piece you will see the bobbin is basically a standard Seymour Duncan slug bobbin. I guess it is more of a friction fit but the poles are height adjustable but not really because of the threads.
Theodi, I have disproven the fact that the Invader sounds like the Invader because of the poles. It has more to do with the magnets as the dominant factor on the sound. I swapped regular hex poles for the huge button types and there is a minimal sound difference only the normal hex poles sound tighter than the huge button caps on the Invader.
I did a blind sound comparison asking people to guess which one was the real Invader and IIRC everyone thought the modified Invader was the real one.
I gave an Invader with the regular hex poles to Dave AKA (Budman) from FretsontheNet.com for his Jackson Model 5A about a year ago. I'll have to ask him if he has tried it to compare between the 2 first hand.

So in other words, you had a low DC neck pickup with a single A5 magnet and 42 ga. wire. Might be similar to putting a single A5 in the neck Invader... cool. I'm glad there are folks out there who can't leave well enough alone! It opens up possibilities!
