Invader set or duncan distortion mayhem on flying V

Re: Invader set or duncan distortion mayhem on flying V

Oh haha. I wouldn't worry about choosing the Distortion over the Pegasus. The Pegasus seems pretty nice. I am very happy with the Distortion though. I got it really big with the extra magnets and it's still clear, just what I was going for. Yes, I can hear all the notes in the chord nicely tuned a whole step down.

With the extra magnets, it's probably similar to the Black Winter.
How did you fit them in?

Hmm!

Kind of like this but with a big ceramic in the center. That's just a spare 59 I had lying around for reference. Kind of ghetto, but it works!

Do you have the ceramics so that they are attracted to or opposed to the center magnet?

I dug up an old thread about the Invader mags' orientation and Falbo said they oppose, so that's what I did.

Cool. Good info for me to store away for future reference.

Personally I would have gone with a Dimebucker bridge & Full Shred neck...image.jpg
Only because I just dropped them into my V & they are absolutely amazing, LOL!!!

Of course I'm still in that honeymoon period, but I think they'll be staying in there for the foreseeable future???

You may need two different guitars with different pickups to cover Hendrix to System of a Down.

Re: Invader set or duncan distortion mayhem on flying V

I haven't messed with enough dissimilar pickups to know what to expect.

I though my SH-5 would be louder than my PGn. The SH-5 is vintage so that probably affects it some but the PG is louder than the custom. The BWn is 13K and the Pegasus/b is 12.5, how hot of a pickup would go well with the BW? I'm not so crazy about the BW bridge from the clips I've listened to.

Re: Invader set or duncan distortion mayhem on flying V

DCR is only a part of the equation and only useful when talking about the same wire gauge, unless other relative comparisons can be made. Even with the same gauge wire, the insulation and wind pattern are still mystery meat.

Regarding hot bridge vs vintage neck, remember that the string is much louder and darker at the neck then it is at the bridge. How you adjust your amp can also have a huge impact. How much gain are you using? Just as important if not far more so, what is your playback volume? What works in the bedroom almost never translates to what works at gigging volume.

What SD bridge pickups to pair with the BWn besides the BWb?
Alt 8, Custom, DD or hotter, possibly a JB or FS at the lower end; but I'm not so sure I'd be using a BWn in a dark guitar.

Re: Invader set or duncan distortion mayhem on flying V

For the most part anymore I'm running a very healthy amount of gain but not over the top with an OD pedal and the gain on the amp dimed. Practice volume is 1/2 to 3/4 of being even with a live drummer, decent loud. Stage volume is effin loud though.

I may just start trying everything and see what it likes. One of them will speak to me but I have to try the BWn, I want it to be dark for stoner/sludgy stuff, brighter at the bridge with good cut, but still grindy with enough harmonic value that it's not in EMG land.

Re: Invader set or duncan distortion mayhem on flying V

I stuck the ceramic spacer magnets in the JB/C with an ant A2 in the center... tone city! 300k pots and a neck/bridge blender.

I think a dd or nazgul would be good for system of a down and somthing with low output in neck maybe the sentinent or the sh-1

Re: Invader set or duncan distortion mayhem on flying V

Is it true that low output pickups are better for drop tuning? If thats true i might go for the slash set wit alnico 2 magnets.

Re: Invader set or duncan distortion mayhem on flying V

But i dont know if the guitar has a maple top some dealers say it has a maple top an others dont.
For example it says that the black cherry hellraiser v-1 has a maple top

Re: Invader set or duncan distortion mayhem on flying V

What seymour duncans would be close to the burstbucker 2 neck and burstbucker 3 bridge i like the sound of them but in germany there are no dealers who sell the 4conducter version.
And the duncan versions are a little bit cheaper
